All xiaomi bootloaders have been locked in 2016... but at least it won't suffer X10 wifi disconnecting problem, if xiaomi makes their own chip, it can be fixed immediately

Umm, I wonder... xiaomi is so popular right now on low/mid range because of the customization, the simple yet really pleasant features they provide in their UI and the great performance they are providing in that range due to mediatek chips being so good for so low price, thing that only a few chips have achieved and most of them are not so reliable. So I wonder if Xiaomi will actually do better in low-med range using their own chips.
On the other side, I don't think they will start using their own Soc without having a plan.
Well... the time will have the last word.

Not the 3rd manufacturer but the 4th,to use their own SOC. LG had their 'G3 Screen' with the Nuclun SOC in 2014 itself and will launch the Nuclun 2 this year.

Lol, 20 Feb 2016Can these be trusted not to peek or send data on the quiet? In general yes, except for your data. The Chinese government considers your data of utmost national importance so the chip has been designed specifically to leak all your data to China.

Good to hear Xiaomi has the money to develop its own chip set, they will have high control on the OS and kernel. It will be behind in the first few years, and then great chip will come. See Huawei is great example.
