Also Xiaomi is the 4th biggest in terms of market share, and were 3rd only months ago. This is why they're a giant.

The phone is cheaper than the competition, but personally I think it should be cheaper. If it had expandable storage I would've considered it, but it doesn't...

          >>RMB 2699 is what, 380€?

Yes, roughly that. Of course VAT may change the price up/down a bit.

Also, currently Xiaomi states: "other global markets coming soon"

So, you might have to wait a bit, until they can satisfy the insane demand in China and other parts of Asia first.

Xiaomi is NOT a giant. They shipped 70 million phones. Samsung Shipped 325 million. Apple 232 million (in 2015). Hardly a giant. Even Lenovo shipped more phones and they are not a giant by any measure (43 billion revenue, cf. Xiaomis rougly 20 billion). So perhaps Xiaomi is a middle-weighter at best.

                As for the phone itself...
                - No micro SD slot (like S7 or G5) now that even Google is adding more support to MicroSD and understands it is crucial (see Marshmallow Flex storage). Latest UHS-II microSD cards are FASTER than the internal memory (at 300MB/S read, 200MB/s write), so Barra's old argument about "slowness" of memory cards does not stand anymore.
                - Camera looks decent with four-axis OIS and Sony IMX298. Let's see how it stacks up against IMX 260 from Sony
                - Most of their tech breakthroughs are just standard Snapdragon 820 fare. Everybody who uses the SoC, gets the same features.
                - Battery is 3000mAh (comparable to S7, but loses to S7 Edge)

The price is great at 2699 RMB for Mi 5 Pro compared to say 5000 RMB for S7.

I'm all for Xiaomi, but they are still lagging behind... in most areas except the price.

Front and back 2d glass is exactly like samsung galaxy s6... Camera module and bottom speakers are exactly like iphone 6... Specs are amazing... undoubtedly best for that price point but first glance by people around you remind you of something is really not appreciative...

Will buy if its for $350 or less. But where is the goddamn event??

It has no best design (maybe u free like copying other phones), it has no best UI... but 2k display, SD820, 4gb RAM & 16mp & 8mp camera! Price? Maybe half of Galaxy S7 or even less... we still wanna complain?

Owned a Redmi Note 3 and will never buy a Xiaomi again. Hardware was good, Miui was totally rubbish.

there r sm posts regarding online posting of xiaomi mi5 specs and price smwhat around 37k and 41k
if these came to b true den surely xiaomi will b left again with unmet sales target like last year
so its quite a crucial moment fir d buyers n d company itself to create a mass appeal buy pricing it cleverly

The price of xiaomi mi5 wud definitely be a key factor determining d sales of d phone. Anything above 25k for d top variant wud tempt buyers to reach out for other options n surely frm upgrading frm previous xiaomi users
lets hope for d best n see if xiaomi comes out with a sharp pricing strategy as sharp as their specs depicted for xiaomi mi5

                                        Bland, featureless, generic designed device.
Good luck with that approach Xiaomi but I believe you'll quickly learn that you need to really innovate to stay ahead in this market :S
