justinbarber, 25 Feb 2016hahahaha!!! my iPhone doesn't need any of this fancy stuff ... moreSamsung doesn't NEED any of this stuff either. And if i'm not mistaken, there are already a bunch of iPhone attachents exactly like this so your point is mute.

Dan, 25 Feb 2016Looks like LG G5 took that "total success" at MWC this year... morelol, are you saying that you don't see a difference between g5 and s7?

Dan, 25 Feb 2016Sorry to disappoint you, but S line was popular when the pr... moreIt would appear you have some large misunderstandings on cameras; what is important to taking a great photo..
I only take issue as to the way you present your knowledge as making out like Samsung are being nefarious in their methods here, or that what we have here are 'sound accessories'.

The most important things in photography are the lense and sensor and the photographers mind.
Ideally the camera is a small portable unit (the camera you carry is the camera that gets the shot).

Whilst I own serveral digital single lens reflex (dslr), and interchangeable lens compacts systems, as well as point and shooters of all varieties, and have had twenty or more digital cameras over the last twenty odd years, it is my time working in camera sales and the photography industry that gives me a pretty well educated background to fall upon here...

Less megapixels on the same sized sensor is a good thing.
Quality lenses to help capture the light (and land it in the correct place) are essential.

There has been very few 'camera phones' that truly are. (Yes most phones can take pictures)
We know that manufacturers don't truly care about the camera in their phones due to most models having no lens cover, and some even raise the lens from the rear for the phone to rest upon when put down.

      Why swap lenses?
      Changing needs of the composition.
Wide angle (landscape format shots) are very different to portraiture (up close), vs macro (super close) shots.

Selecting the correct lens for the shot is half the fun of full photography.
Composing the shot in the photographers head, they then select the right tool to capture that vision.
A few lenses in kit bag give much greater variance to what they can achieve.

When cameras moved from film to digital, the need for quality lenses went up. With film, the surface that received the light had variations in it. The lens wasn't focusing light onto a perfectly flat surface like they do with digital sensors.

A good wide angle lens will reduce distortion in the corners. A good portraiture lens might not care so much about corner brightness and be built with speed and sharpness as the main considerations. (To be fair portraiture lenses need to capture accurate light spectrum (colour), and a little softness can be a good thing)

Lenses usually have a few elements involved (each refracting the light in different ways with different lens design affecting the overall size and price).
Small compact lens with no zoom are called primes. For a small cash outlay they usually involve exceptional sharpness.
To build a wide range zoom (from landscape to telephoto) with macro function and optical stabilisation, with proper quality glass elements in it can make them large and heavy.
So, photographers sometimes carry several. One for zooming in on distance objects, one for extreme wide angle shots, and sometimes and 'everyday shooter' somewhere in between.

Good photos start with a great idea, framing the shot, and then light being focused onto the sensor USING A LENS.

The sensor does matter, as does the software processing of the collected data.
Ideally if we can take RAW format photos we haven't had any software processing done and we can edit the shot later in time almost as if we were about to take the photo.
(Settings likes 'white point temperature' / overcast/sunlight/indoors etc).

Yes Sony have a 23MP sensor (in the new X series), but it looks like it doesn't have optical image stabilisation, or a super fast lens in front of it.
As long as both cameras processing doesn't screw up the shot, the Samsung, from a design perspective, is one of the best camera phones yet made.

And it is a good thing that it has some official lenses being offered!

Herodroid, 25 Feb 2016Sony always does not get best out of their camera sensors, ... moreLooks like LG G5 took that "total success" at MWC this year. And guess what? It'll cost probably £150-200 less than Samsung, being on par with S7. I don't mind paying more for the phone IF THERE IS A GOOD AND VALID REASON FOR IT. Paying 30% more, just being a fanboy is something I will never understand. Don't get me wrong, I like Samsung and what they do with the phones. I just don't think they do enough to justify this ridiculous prices.

Dan, 25 Feb 2016Sorry to disappoint you, but S line was popular when the pr... moreSony always does not get best out of their camera sensors, but oth3r companies just makes cameras better, even Sony said that they work on picture performance to make pictures look the same on different devices.
Samsung changes and refuses megapixel number for bigger pixels to help make good low light photos for small noise. (nexus 6p first phone started carrying about low light photos and pixel size) I don't see anything wrong, picture quality is still the same or even better. Lenses are just extra. Will you always carry lenses together included with your phone? I think not, but you will just keep it when you want. Phones are getting expensivier, yes, Samsung makes expensivier phones, but compare this phone to iphone and s6 it is a huge improvement over these two. And I don't see anything bad with pricing. S7 is a total success this year. Just wait a bit, at the time it comes to stores, price will drops bit.

Herodroid, 25 Feb 2016because s line is very premium, so why Samsung wouldn't mak... moreSorry to disappoint you, but S line was popular when the price was 500 pounds for the unit. Right now it's 700 for S7 which is hitting the overpriced bracket of iPhone. "S line premium" - as you say, have nothing more to offer, then other top-end brands, that cost much less. It's your opinion, but you won't convince me. And let me get this straight...they've reduced the pixel count on the camera, to "enhance' the quality of the photos, but now they are selling separate lens to make up for the actual shortcomings of the camera? That's a shady deal to me. Also...if you think it's THE BEST camera out there right now...it may as well be, but wait for Sony X series to come out. The year just started.

The iphone is barely comparable to the s6. The s7 is even better. This attachment is to bring it closer to a proper camera, no one cares about the iPhone camera anymore because they're lagging behind pretty much everyone. Better hope the iPhone 7 improves the camera.

High end cameras have attachments and different lenses. There is no way of building a fish eye lens into a device. The only way is to use a different lens and this is the way. FYI fish eye and wide angle are different. You seem to not know this from your last 2 post. SMH
