big g, 26 Feb 2016I see what your saying. first thing is heist quality dev... morei don't understand why you feel the need to bring down other users just because they like a particular device or os. you state all these facts in your argument as to why the ipad pro is no good for anything but you are just regurgitating things you have read elsewhere, possibly on linus tech or other similar sites. the truth is, instead of spending your time arguing over which device is the best overall you should be discussing which device is the best FOR YOU! each and every user will find different pro's and con's with every device and if a particular device is suitable for your requirements then that is the device you should choose. its pointless arguing your second hand information unless you have actually used the device. after all, yours is only your opinion, and millions of people would agree with you on this, if you were right.

One... moreI have a note tablet from 2013. Granted I had to do lots of modifications to finally make it fully working and fully responsiv, but it's one excellent product too.
I have quad multi window, pen support with extended uses (that I use all the time), run Linux (as an app) on it to code and it runs wonderfully, I get it back to android by simply going to a different app, youtube plays in the background, every new app apps on a second window without killing my main one like it happens in mac, also gesture navigation etc....
Ipad pro's quality is better, I've used it and without modification my note tablet is crashed by ipad pro. My point is that top of the line tablets existed 3 years ago, unfortunately android makers gave up on them and went for the 2in1 fad which is terrible. Now the only good choice is ipads, I will hold on to my note tab for as long as it takes but then I'll buy an ipad, I hope ipad would catch up to the functionalities I have by then.
I don't have faith to windows tablets though, their tablet experience is terrible , they focus too much into turning tablets into little desktops. I account them as the enemy. They try to indirectly kill the tablet experience because they can't mimick it well enough, they're a$$holes...

3.5" screen was less hard to kill.
(And every size up made for a less 'James Bond' like phone)
I don't think Apple want to sit on the bleeding edge, they enjoy reliable devices that generally work. Series 7000Alu stopped the iBend issue, and yes, they can work through these things.
Maybe their customers are happy, or that is how they see it.. (The cynic in me would believe it is so there is 'innovation' down the track, something 'new' to sell us.
Yes a 10" tablet is a little unruly for one hand use.
I think the pro line is for competing with two in ones / hybrid devices with detachable keyboards. Of which the market sees a lot of 10" sales.
This could be just the thing for Apple to start selling more iPads, as most of the existing ones in the market continue to work, no body 'needs' to replace them...
This might be the 'cool new feature'.
(Personally I use a k480 Logitech Bluetooth keyboard, and even my lowly Motorola razor gets the benefit of a touch typable keyboard, although I write these comments often using the onscreen keyboard of a large tablet, which is keyboard sized and allows a touch type method(that feels wrong-no tactile feedback))

One of the few weaknesses of iOS is a lack of user switching support. (In fact they have just added fingerprint security to 'Notes', on the belief a user MAY want some privacy for their files, although I believe their design intention there was to allow a secure place for passwords etc to live).
Now the common argument in this thread is that an iPad cannot do everything a PC does. (Let's assume a mainstream Windows OS). No it cannot (Nor can that same Windows PC do what an iPad does (although they are working on app compatibility).
When I write how much I can use an iPad, and that professional do enjoy them, we are working off the basis that there is a 'full sized computer' also in the users environment.
Not because like the first iOS tablets that required pairing with a computer to get them started (Apple decided yonks ago to make iOS devices independant and changed much about the way the OS works to allow independant computing), but just like having several TVs in the house, if I got a five inch portable screen, say an OLED panel with phenomenal technical specs, and I thoroughly enjoyed using it, even giving up some of my screen time on the 86" behemoth in the lounge room, does that make my new TV any less a TV because another one exists.
I qualified in my 'articles'...
(that many seem to not read, or go further and quote "Zzzzzzzz" at me (I can only guess my words were boring or contributed nothing interesting, or perhaps just passed over due to the intimidating size of the read, to which I say "beware newspapers and library's" - I have to add some 'sas', to keep it interesting, ay!?)
... that if the iOS has some software to do what you need it to do, then, excellent.
A tool can only be useful if it has the function you need, yes?
Well for most of what average users need, it is consumption.
I opted for an A4 sized device, for viewing magazines as they are, without having to zoom in on every half page.
I even have, on my desktop publishing station, a monitor dedicated to portraiture mode, for just this reason. Yet, just like when I got my Dell Mini 9 many years ago, most of my everyday computing tasks were achievable on a small portable unit.
Sure most people consume webpages, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc.
Tablets, when they hit (for a lot of people the word 'tablet' is 'synonymous with "iPad"') had massive sales growth, in fact almost too much growth, instantly... Combined with rock solid hardware (my daughters iPad '1' still runs the software she sees me using on my latest and greatest (not everything obviously, and she has to use a galaxy note for 'pen' support)) a lot of people have not needed to 'rebuy' their tablets. This is why market sales have slowed.
The people who want one already have one, and, short of the 'Pro' line.. The innovation hasn't been obvious to 'non-computery' types.
So market sales are for 2 in 1s?
Apple design the smart connector, powering attached keyboards. Logitech even make a backlit one.
The carbon fibre speaker boxes, are a design brilliance. In fact the sound 'coming from my screen' I thought it was an iteration of NXT speaker technology (it was the only way for it to sound so clear and precise I figured). There are a few things that make the Pro a 'Pro'.
But, it is more than just hardware; and this matters....
For the Naysayers who say you can get this spec for cheaper, you can.
But I wouldn't....
Apple do it right.
I have owned so many top tier Windows and Android parts. Let down by a lack of consistency.
One part might have a good idea, but implementation is either poor, or worse, I come to enjoy a feature, and it never makes it to market again. For example, my'Touch Pro 2 by HTC' had SMS that were amazing (I was on a keyboard and could write them and edit them with ease), the Nokia N97 even had FM transmission... (But both were stuck with OSs that were left behind, and, eventually chipsets to slow to render modern webpages...)
Apple devices are an ecosystem.
My device is blue light savvy. At night time I can move to a warmer spectrum of light (much research shows that blue light before bed is reduced quality sleep, us having tricked our bodies into believing it is daylight). This is Apples Total Control ecosystem at its best.
Sure I can buy Nexus devices for 'latest' security updates, but they don't alway use top tier parts (like the early Nexus).. I think somewhere around Nexus 2 or 3 they didn't even have a scratch proof glass, and my interest waned completely.
Sure by spec, we can get some impressive numbers by spending very little.
How well implemented such designs are is a 'wait and see' generally, and unfortunately, time is more important for some.
Having one brand remain consistent is a good thing for feeling 'safe' as a consumer.
For the majority of tasks done, a lot of people can survive on a tablet, in which case it become the choice of "what tablet to choose"..
With the market moving to 'hybrids' /2 in 1s with keyboards and the ability to be a little more serious (although I can touch type onscreen on a 12" tablet), the 'Pro' line makes sense.
Add a keyboard. In fact; have a giant pen surface...
These are useful beyond what is available in the market, and do hold a worthwhile position to fill a need.
To this I say "Well done Apple"
For those reading a news thread to just comment to the 'fans', you are the full opposite of typical Apple 'fans'; who are busy living life, and if they have a need they fill it. Calling them iSheep because they would rather not waste time 'trial and erroring' a bunch of unproven products, and just trust in Apples solution, is no bad thing. All the extra time they have to 'get on with living' allows them to work four extra hours in a job, and pay the difference from a top of the line Samsung tablet etc.
And contrary to popular belief, for most, it is an noticeable upgrade.

More than that it's too big too handle... Ipad Pro and Surface Pro are not meant to be used primarily by touch, they're too heavy and unruly for that...
4 inches in the other hand is too small for a modern phone. They chose that size to revert one handed functionality. Instead they should had shaved iphone 6's gigantic bezels off. Apple has money, they can afford paying RnD to make a compact iphone 6 design without making the screen smaller:
127x63mm for example if they were to use bezels like sharp phones.
By comparison iphone 5c is 124x59mm, so only 3mm higher and 4mm wider would give them an one handed iphone 6. Instead they opted for smaller screen, how foolish...

What do you gain by doing thing to your machine directly? Apart from gaming and drawing everything else can hapen to a remote pc better than if it happened locally...
$2000 for an obsolete device, what a waste. I paid $1000 and got 10 times that.

I *work* on my iPad pro. A lot better better than you would ever do in your surface pro. More power (my desktop's power), lighter, bigger screen, better battery...
I always laugh at Surface owners... what a fantastic waste of money...

Its pen lefts everything else to the dust, the battery is twice that of surface pro, much larger screen yet incredibly lighter, fast and responsive in everything and since I'm using my PC's power ultra fast compiling....
Surface Pro is for wannabe professionals. Real professional use real tools like a desktop + tablet....

I know why they did that. With ipad air 3 there profit margin would have been 40 to 50 percent less than with what it will be now. Profit on detachable key board profit on ipad pro price profit on other accessories

first thing is heist quality device it is not, there are plenty of devices with the same quality as it even the ipad air 2 is of similar quality to it and nearly half the price and I don't think that there is double the quality and features from those 2 devices.
second, try looking up a review from an independent reviewer on youtube technobuffalo springs to mind, they are pro users and the applications they use and need for there job are not available on that device, if it a pro device ten it should appeal to pro's of al kinds be that video, photo editing or game design, try rendering 4k video on an ipad pro I bet you don't have a very nice time.
third, 4gb of ram is good for general usage even if it is ios your running but is by no means futureproof, once again if it for pro's of all kinds (not just photo editors) this is not enough.
forth. yes the chip cost money to develop but not for this device, this is the same as the apple iphone 6s the cost was already spent for use in the iphone, the soc was not developed for the ipad pro itself, its not a whole new soc its been reused and overclocked.
what im saying here is he device should never have been this price for what you get, you could get a mac book for nearly the same price that have a full os, much faster and more expensive processor and gpu, much more storage. im glad your happy with your device props to you but you spent a fortune on a big ipad and lets be honest that's all it is. I have a problem with way apple do business, milking it loyal customers for all there worth. for this price point I would expect that full cpu gpu (laptop grade), full os and a lot more storage than this. if you don't think apple milks its customer then why s there still a 16gb model of all there devices, ill tell you why coz its not enough and it forces people to buy the higher option (which costs a lot more) instead of offering 32b base models, coz people could get by on that but apple wants your money. have a nice day these were the facts

You will need a Windows device like the Surface Pro.
It's a perfect tablet, available with lots of different processors and memory. It's maybe expensive but you need performance for 4K and Photoshop, if you're a professional of course. ;)
