02 March, 2016
HTC's Steam-powered Vive VR headset, which went on pre-order earlier this week, received 15,000 pre-orders in just 10 minutes. The revelation was made by Shen Ye, a VR product specialist at the Taiwan-based company.

AnonD-416078, 02 Mar 2016Actually, you can build one for less than 1000$In my market its $500 for video card (GTX970? grab 980 to be sure), $300 for processor (4570k?), $50-100 for CPU cooler, $100-200 for motherboard, $70-200 for case, $100-200 for PSU, $200+ for SSD and RAM. Thats the minimum package. I can't imagine anyone pushing this into $1000 range without some voodoo (Newegg/ebay) magic, which is simply not available in my country. Same as those quality $20-70 PC cases, quality sub-$100 power supplies and proper prices on most components.

It may be possible to gather all of those components into a sub-$1000 package in some markets, but not everywhere. And you'll still want that 980 or something even more powerful. Me, I'll wait for VR to actually provide proper pixel density - 4k or higher, I'm not satisfied with 1/2 Full-HD per eye. I've seen Samsung VR with 2k phone screen, and pixels were HUGE. I'm afraid same thing will happen with this - narrow field of view and huge pixels, on top of very high performance requirement and insane price.

Still, it will probably be a fun toy to play with, as long as you got the cash (Samsung VR was quite fun despite pixels). If I had the cash, I'd buy it myself.

Herodroid, 02 Mar 2016I have seen that oculus rift deals with valve already. One ... moreTrue. They've had a head start, but now that Valve has it's own VR headset, I'm guessing they will focus their support on their own product. It's not only that, looks like Vive can do so much more. Have a look at Vive demo "Portal room", if you're interested. Should be on YT already.

One year ago or so I have seen video in which shows one guy playing team fortress 2. But that's for these facts now it is more clear for me. Oculus rift had a lot of hype in before.

It's probably not that simple, but that's 2 times the effort to render each frame compared to typical 1080p 60fps display.

I'm more curious why the delivery costs 100euros to Finland. I got my phone delivered from China directly to my door for 20 euros. Are they shipping it from the moon or something?

Herodroid, 02 Mar 2016any arguments/facts why?I can answer that, if that's ok. I've seen Vive in action, and Oculus already. #1 the image is so much sharper and so much more realistic on Vive. #2 Oculus requires you to sit down and just move your head around. Vive has got a set of 2 cameras, that read all your movements, the size of available space, and adjust the experience according. #3 controllers on Vive works fantastic. Just as they should with non visible lag input. #4 While Oculus is nice and let's you see what it would be like to do things, that are in front of your eyes, Vive actually makes you feel like you're experiencing it. I'm sure there are more, once I'll get my hands on my own version, but first impressions are really good. Oh...#5 It's colaboration of HTC with Valve...VALVE, the biggest gaming platform on PC, which will take the VR to the next level, with their full support. Well...one hopes, but it's obvious they want their product to do well. I mean...I'd love to see Rift stepping up, we all know competition is good, but the realease version comparison? Vive. Hands down, hats off.

my 3570k and cute little r7 250x will have a hard time rendering those sences! (i don't get why they require so much processing power :S I mean it is 2 eyes but 2 4:3 low res screens and they process same thing so they can require even less graphics?!)
I don't have money for a case and there are no games for it atm, otherwise i would buy one ;(

Still far from Xiaomi's "50k units in 5 seconds" sales. Nonetheless, impressive for a $800+ device, which requires $2k PC as a minimum.

Anonymous, 02 Mar 2016Wow...You must be ,ad to shell such monet for such preliminary tech. The HMD is too heavy, the dpi too low, still no effective way to control your characters. It's a devkit sold as an end product.

Don't take me wrong, vr is the future, but as Palmer Luckey once said "bad VR is the true enemy of VR". It's not that it is bad either, it's early gen, I think they should sell at loss at first so that to have it to more homes, and when VR takes off release it full price.
