yes the shitty SD 810 is responsible for the price cut. For instance more earlier Xperia Z3 having SD 801 & much better screen & battery performance is still selling at 15000 Bucks more.

Meanwhile in Egypt the almost 2 years old z3 costs even higher while the Z3+ costs 600usd and the z5 compact costs 700usd i don't think I have to mention the price of the z5 premium here 😂😂😂😂

Its because now a fingerprint scanner is becoming a MUST on even entry level devices. This is similar to the times in the last decade when 1080 TV's started becoming the norm and 720 TV's saw a massive price cut to clear stocks. Even at this price, LG Nexus 5X is MUCH MUCH better than this phone in the long term. But people get carried away "only" by looks so this might become a tempting option in the short term.
