Having read the specs, only the chip is mid range, the rest is high end, not sure what everyone else is on about.

The last time Oppo made a device with sort of high-ish specs was during 2014 using the Snapdragon 801 SoC with the Find7 and N3. After that, they stuck with mid-range specs or lower for their elusive devices (but there is nothing wrong with focusing on that segment of the market, especially for relatively small local/regional company with limited exposure internationally).

Unfortunately most of the comments here are from people who have never owned an Oppo phone. The R9/+ is not designed to compete with more expensive S7/G5 but enter the mid-range market. Oppo makes excellent phones, an OS without the clutter of others and a good camera experience.

Your speculations of the R9 from rumours & leaks are off by a mile, it lead us to believe it would be a true high end flagship phone with the latest & greatest out there.
What a bummer it turns out to be just mid-range or low-range cheap chinese offerings, better to put my money on better known & established companies.
