I hope Sony makes a new "video headset", but with high enough resolution.
My Z3 has higher DPI than this headset, and when used with google cardboard, you can clearly see pixels.
The S6 does not have RGB subpixel arrangement but higher DPI, and with that one you also clearly see pixels with the Gear VR for S6.

All new dedicated VR equipment should at least have Full HD resolution per eye.
UHD would be even better, it might be overkill in terms of seeing pixels, I dont know, but UHD has an advantage when it comes to upscaling (3x3 for 720p and 2x2 for 1080p, but the difference between 1080p and 720p is 1.5, so that makes upscaling a bit more complicated).

But surely high framerate is important as well.

it connects just like pairing two bluetooth devices .all u need is a support from the game devs to have the ps4 controller support built in in there apps and games that is it and ur ps4 controller is good to go...

A dedicated vr device can utilize the resolution better . Less pixel will be wasted .

AnonD-100398, 16 Mar 2016yah! man I have samsung gear vr and i use it with my Note5 ... moreWell... altough GearVR uses 2560x1440 screen,in reality it uses only small part of it.Magnifying smaller part will always yield worse result than magnifying biger portion of the screen besides lower pixel density.
And as you already know, the display is only one side of the equatation. The quality of the lenses, raw graphic power, the content itself etc etc is all very important to the final expirience.
I'm inclined to believe that PS VR will outshine GearVR in all of the aspects, and redeem its higher price. But for entry level VR expirience GearVR will remain the king for now.

Tann Hauser, 16 Mar 2016Actually Sony uses rgb subpixels to smooth it out... Refre... moreOnly thing attractive about Sony one is the price for me. And I dont intend on buying a console anytime soon as I have a kick-ass PC. That being said, I think the other two major products will bring much higher quality experience just because there's greater potential for more extensive application on PC. I would say Sony brought a very good entry level product at a price that many people won't be crying over.

Who cares about the resolution, on price/spec ratio for a first gen vr, this is the most affordable with high quality people can get. It's a plug and play with a large number of games in development. If you want the best vr, spend alot more and get htc vive+high end pc, problem solved ;)

Something before eyes should be like that 5000ppi holographic tech(with less res using 3D pic). Well that would take a lot of processing power and it seems sony went for better price. At least we can expect it to not lag with such resolution and bring some serious games.

I understand that the refresh rate is high on sony ps4 vr but on Note5 and gear vr i do not feel any lack of refresh rate..I hope Sony makes some type of technology to have the gear vr work with the ps4 using my Note5 as screen for vr and have the devs work on the games they are going to come up with..cause right now oculas support for some AAA games is pitty useless.
& People who already have the gear VR and compitable smartphones wont have to invest a big amount in this new Low res Sony VR.

Refresh rate is even more important than pixelcount tho, Sony got it to 120 which is superb
And that screen kees the price on the level

Sonys VR headset IMO is the most price accessable, most practical, best looking, with very good connectivity options and controllers
                                  Will sell most
