iPhone 5se to have 4K video recording, 12MP camera

16 March, 2016
Early whispers suggested an old 8MP/1080p camera, but it seems the 5se will be closer to the 6s than the 5s.

AnonD-442781, 16 Mar 2016No it doesn't. It runs on native resolution. And on the CPU... moreYes it does, install Antutu 6.0 and you phone and check it, every 3d test runs at 1080p, no matter what the screen resolution is. It's that easy to verify, install it.

    Nice low res display

4k video? OMG. Other brands had that like 2 or 3 years ago.

Herodroid, 16 Mar 2016what's the point of 4k? people has FHD monitors and smaller... moreHow would your argument stand against, say, photos?

Digital Cameras including the ones in our phones, take photo's with much higher resolution than the screen.

It is advantageous to have a lil extra resolution to play with... It can aid in post processing, it can allow for cropping (effectively an extra zoom for keeping subject dramatic, with higher resolutions allowing 'greater range'..)

Anyhow, we don't watch our movie recordings on the camera, we play it back on the biggest badass screens we can find....

A9 chip design is quite 'purposed' and optimised (both in hardware and software) and could easily assist any camera hardware onboard.

I imagine it will run relatively problem free (yes, heat as well), and not rip through battery life any different to other 4K devices around this price point. In fact the small screen could net it a win vs 4K cameras battery life whilst recording ??

Digital stabilisation would be the only other benefit I could come up with in a "ten second brain storm". Extra res can allow for an optimal dual stabilisation approach (optical and electrical).. Who knows..

Not sure you are why you are upset about it.
I truly hope you are not the type who has ever accused Apple of trying to milk customers with cheap parts...
Maybe they do include the best tech as soon as possible, (when it fits in with their other design ideals; eg iPads all seem to have battery drain time considerations in place that aim the whole system envelope of 'power' to hit a consistent duration. They then shrink battery size (reduces weight) to hit the same run times as the generation before.

They love shrinking chips and netting extra 'scope' but that is besides the topic here, so, believe it or not, I'm not a fanboy, I just commented as I didn't want anyone getting misconceptions about whether 4K recording is useful if the cameras onboard screen doesn't have enough resolution.

I do apologised if this has already been addressed, I've just reversed the order of thread comments appearing, and I now get to see things evolve... ;-)

And on the CPU side multicores are under weighted (obviously, android relies on multiple cores, iOS doesn't, using the same weighting for both is stupid).

The A9 definitely has better CPU performance (single core at least; dual core can't win multi core against a quad core), but I'm pretty sure the Adreno 530 beat the A9's GPU - by about 20% if I remember right.
Yeah, Apple processors are way ahead of anything else at the moment. I see an iPhone these days, and I feel jealousy - not for the phone, but for that beautiful hunk of silicon inside it. T_T

SirVer, 16 Mar 2016Not true. The Snapdragon 820 is on par with or beats the A9... moretrue, the 820 comes very near the A9, but not because of the resolution, dont forget all tests are run on the same resolution offscreen. Antutu for example runs all tests at 1080p independently of the screen res, so the results are indeed comparable.
Still, dont forget the 820 is being launched in MArch of 16 while the A9 came out on September of 15, Apple's SoC's are way ahead.
