Samsung Galaxy TabPro S with Windows 10 is out in the US tomorrow for $899.99

17 March, 2016
Samsung announced the Galaxy TabPro S tablet running Windows 10 at CES in January, and we've already seen it going on sale throughout Europe at the beginning of this month. And now it's finally time for it to become available in the US as well. Almost, anyway.

AnonD-126854, 18 Mar 2016Of course one can get a decent laptop for this price. But ... moreBut the point of a tablet is not to use it on a desktop environment. Touch does not help desktop apps, it's a frustrating experience compared to mouse. So it's not a real tablet, just a weak laptop with atrocious control (touch instead of touchpad/mouse).

AnonD-367917, 18 Mar 2016Yes, it is 'niche' (as is all technology) Your argument ... moreToo large for a tablet , too small for a laptop. That's my argument.

You can't really be productive in such a small screen and low specs, but it's worse than most tablets too (less battery, almost twice the weight, a lot of the apps are low quality as they're not touch optimized...).

My Tab S has an Amoled screen and it's 2 year old... Sure it's "only" 10.5 inches, but it's very natural for reading as it supports Google books making reading a much better experience than with most readers. Also it's far lighter per inch and has more battery per inch, that's all from a 2 year old product...

Oh but they do keep a pistol to my head when they decide to focus all their tablet production on low end laptops. We used to get light, mobile tablets with great touch apps support from Samsung. Now we get a low end laptop that pretends to be a tablet and a tab s2/s3 (a tablet that manages to be worse than its predecessor).

But it will be not hybrid, not as mobile and sleek, not AMOLED display, not good for pen job...
BTW this new m3 is very good.
This is great hybrid, with good battery life, and just enough good for 90% of the ppl to serve them as PC with no need of extra tablet.(so you save much money there)
And as I can see, lighter, and better than Surface, imo
                  (keyboard included in the price)

Your needs are not the same as billions of other individuals. This MIGHT offer THEM something that suits their needs.

For example, my local post office has an exceptional print service for its customers.
Presently they use a 10" tablet, which would still shrink the output and not let customers see it easily as it is 'true "what you see is what you get", yes?

Your argument is it is too large, then suggest that they are better off going larger?

Perhaps its trade offs will allow its features to shine for the niche that wish to use it; ie the BUYERS of this product. Nobody is holding a knife to anyone's throat saying 'you must buy me over all other options'. I doubt they will be making these in the sort of numbers as their 10" and 8" tablets.

A4 and magazines is just a natural marriage. I could never enjoy reading magazine PDFs on my top spec monitors, not due to any failing of the monitor... An A4 portraiture display is handy.
This might be Sammys design intent here, as they gave it quite limited battery life (vs the Apple 12", and all iPads that target 10 hours). As a second display and a portable display option this IS an exciting prospect.

No one says you have to hold it.
I got a 'free' tablet stand with some kitchen herbs at the supermarket.
If Steam could remote play to my Apple easily (it can, but not 'one button' easy) I would happily play 'Legend of Grimrock' on my touch enabled device... (I have arm strength.)

Otherwise a 12" AMOLED screen? Brilliant. I want one. Oh you've included a computer to power it; better still!

Sure picture heavy readings benefit (like comics), but the rest are not. Too heavy to read for a long time, low mobility and lower battery.

A 13.3 inch top spec laptop can be almost as big/small as those devices, with added benefit of better battery (often) , better keyboard, more power. What is it in touch that makes it better than a touch pad + keyboard for a desktop OS?

Touch is a good idea for simple functions (like reading, surfing the web), but very bad for most content production.

Yes it's a new form factor, so many rush to buy it. But once the dust will be settled it will be clearly shown that it is only viable for a a niche of people. It's too big to be easy to hold for long, but too small for serious work...

Maybe it will get a more viable size when the weight falls below the 500 gram line, and maybe trim the bezels so that it can be easier to store... more battery too, 10 hours screen time is the minimum for a high end laptop these days, surface Pros get almost half ...

This is a perfect equivalent to an IPad Pro; spec wise we have a lot of smiliarities (less resolution and a smaller battery life, with double sized storage option)

The battery life will be the feature that might hurt it though... Windows OS is not very power efficient, nor does it make use of a lot of custom functions for the chips onboard. This means that a lot of things done in hardware on the competitors platform will have to be handled in software on this platform. So it really is comparing Apples to Oranges.

I do think these units have a functional demand and will be enjoyed by many...
As to whether it makes sense to choose this over a dedicated larger machine, or to 'split the purchase' into a small tablet and a dedicated machine, that is for the user to decide.

I love my 12" tablet and use it daily; retiring the use of my 13" laptop (top tier spec), and desktop machine (top tier spec). My underpowered tablet does content consumption beautifully and, can get me out of trouble for content creation in a lot of instances too.

There is a market for devices like these.
I would love a large AMOLED display, and on the market this is it!!!

The A4 equivalent screen size is great for magazines and documents... And rotating these things, even as a secondary screen for a PC, is very easy. (portraiture mode being out of the realm of many PC monitors).

Sammy well done. I hope this product performs well and doesn't just reveal to the market reasons why iOS suits mobile devices....
