Hey. don't really get his whole north american variant business. Im looking at the LG G5 RS988 and I want to use it in Israel, according to the specs it should work. Is it not going to work because its a north american variant? I dont get it it's unlocked...

mir, 19 Mar 2016I disagree on the sunlight legibility part where you're say... morei said there are cases with super amoled having better brightness, BUT hardware vs hardware because lcds have backlight they will GENERALLY have the highest brightness level, look at the mi 5, disagree all you want but this is FACTS, the brightest and best quality lcd will always be brighter than the brightest best quality amoled its science, physics really

"Note: The RS988 is the North American variant of the LG G5. It will run on any GSM network that uses cell frequencies supported by the device, including AT&T and T-Mobile. It will also work with certain CDMA carriers, such as Verizon."
Checking the LTE bands listed on the Specs page confirms that this model will NOT work with the Sprint network, as it has none of the Sprint bands (25, 26, 41). It does have all the bands for AT&T, T-Mobile (including Band 12!), Verizon (including Band 13!), US Cellular, and smaller regional CDMA operators.
Also, about the model number "RS988". That format (two letters + 3 numbers) has been used by LG for CDMA models since at least the G2. For example, the Sprint G2 is LS980, the Verizon G3 is VS985, the US Cellular G4 is US991, etc. Looking at LG's other CDMA phones shows that V = Verizon, L = Sprint (for whatever reason), and U = US Cellular. However, this is the first time that the letter "R" has been used. I'm guessing R = Retail, as in factory unlocked not tied to any carrier.
Also interesting to note is that B&H has been offering something similar for the LG G4 for a while. The US Unlocked model they're selling (US991, so technically it's the US Cellular variant but with no carrier customization) has all of the bands necessary for all US operators, again except the Sprint network.

Have you seen the chart here on gsmarena? All the top phones are amoled phones. Mainly the ones with super amoled screens.

IPS stands for Inter-Plane-Switching, and it is the technology that keeps you from losing the image as you move at an angle while viewing. Worth noting, the OLED desktop monitors are available now. There'll still pretty pricey, so you won't see many in Walmart, etc. -- most likely none. Only gamers and graphic designers can justify the price, so far.

Someone Else, 19 Mar 2016Can someone please tell me what the diffrences between IPS ... morethere really is no "BEST", ips lcd has back light they OVERALL have the best brightness and best sunlight legibility because of the back light, OLED and AMOLED are basically the same but in the case of amoled there are "switches" to turn up or turn off the illumination of individual pixels(by the way amoled doesnt use backlight each each pixel has its own light)
here are the GENERAL advantages of ips lcd and general disadvantages
+high brightnes -lower contrast
+energy efficient whites -bad blacks
+ no burn ins -theoretically more power hungry
+cheaper
for amoled
+deep blacks - hues in whites
+theoritcally more energy efficient - expensive
+high contrast - burn ins
- low brightness
Note not all ips or amoleds are made equally there are amoleds with better brightness than some ips displays like super amoled,a nd there are amazing deep black lcds like ips- neo
but these are GENERALLY whats different about them, it boils down to indiviual quality

AMOLED is what Samsung calls their own OLED technology panels which consist of pixels that are individually lit which result in deeper blacks since black pixels are not illuminated at all.
And finally, OLED displays use the same technology that AMOLEDs use but they tend not to be as bright as Samsung's displays can get.
This is all off the top of my head, if I'm wrong somewhere, someone please point it out.
