pru, 21 Mar 2016what a greedy move by apple 32gb then jump staright to 128 gbNot sure the issue; you want less storage for the same $$$?

32GB is perfect for a 'consumption' device.
Most of my IT support customers (who use iPads) only check emails/view webpages and might install AN APP.
They could get away with 16GB, so I am glad Apple make a small part, and then parts with 'actual storage'.

I am living off 128Gb of storage. I have 80Gbs of music, and the rest Apps.
I have a ridiculous amount of large apps on my unit, because having never been an iDevice user, I have a huge backlog of software to check out (eg just the Magic the Gathering series has its own folder- okay RPGs included...).

I could easily remove 90% of the apps installed. And I don't need to keep lossless audio files.
Anyhow,.. The 256Gb will have the space needed for 4K and high refresh rate 1080P video.
The 128Gb could get by alright, so long as the work flow includes moving the video files to external storage (eventually). The 32Gb editing three 4K video streams (the adverts for the Pro/A9X quote this example); would be an arduous task, involving a lot of file movements after each project is done....
So base model for people who want the chipset. Next tiers for people who want to use the camera and video functions extensively.... Or want to be lazy with their software management and never delete stuff they no longer use...

Anyhow, Apple, like other big brands, sell to PRICEPOINTS.
They don't want to change the pricepoint (it devalues their market), so they up the inclusions.

The speaker setup and design on the Pro easily justifies the price jump from 'lesser models' to me. The new screen and screen tech on this Pro model is phenomenal. I would buy one for editing photos and desktop publishing (proofing).
For the average user,.. Apple love that their screens are colour accurate. When Samsung wouldn't let them have OLED (a few years ago), the Apple exec (Cook?) walked out of the meeting and said 'at least when users order something off the net on our products, they will know what it actually looks like' (not verbatim).

I recall getting my 32GB Note, adding a 128Gb SD card, and feeling on top of the world with 160Gb of non moving part storage. (Unfortunately the Samsund Micro SD card was a fake, and Android moves internal data like photos and videos onto external storage,.. So I lost all my 'first day of school' photos etc; and the replacement card, being official, cost a little more. - still 96Gb of storage was awesome....)

I would certainly take an entry level Pro over a 64Gb Air. (If priced similar).
Personally I would go without the storage just to get the Pro model. It really is THAT much better, and will hold its resale better than the present range of Apple tablets, which, in due time, will all be seen as the 'generation before the A9X/Pros'.

        Anonymous, 22 Mar 20162012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 All screens 264 ppi 5 years... moreThis is a major 'ace' up their sleeve.

HAving developers know a DPI to create art assets for is awesome. A consistent platform..? Only Apple have this advantage.

You are hinting that the tech hasn't evolved, it has... Generally these are the best colour/contrast/glare reduced screens on the market, and the quality of the screen DOES evolve. Sticking with the same resolution when it is 'just about perfect' isn't a deal breaker.

Having a market that can make use of the same screen res is a real strength.
Not a perfect thing though, as my near 13" tablet, with the same pixel per inch, has a ridiculous number of pixels to push, and the killer GPU has to work hard to make it so (over five million pixels per frame to render...). I think the perfect unit is the new 9.7" Pro. Same System on a Chip(SoC), with vastly less pixels on screen, it will render some beaut frames when developers start to push it.
Knowing they can keep the assets the same, and just 'up the effects',. this will scale well.

Nintendo used to do this. GAmeBoy>Gameboy colour, double the speed which worked out to match perfectly the new 'increased load'. They did this with just about every jump in tech.
It was great as they could just keep the old CPU/SoC in a new system (and use it as a processor for controller input/for running the last systems games 'unemulated' on original hardware.

The colour gamut and accuracy on Apple displays is unequalled in the mass market sales space.
They do give their best, hence why photographers and creative types use their hardware (and see the 'overpriced' value they are getting; whilst everyone else poopoos them cause they got 'similar spec' for much less cost; the Apple owners generally don't care about statements poopooing their kit, cause they are too busy being productive on a TOOL).
Shame Apple lost a lot of the audio creation market when emulating cool and ancient audio hardware became a 'thing' on WinOS. (Where the musicians had to learn a lot about latency and issues introduced by software that wasn't a problem over in the Apple camp).

Anyhow, the 'Pro' tablets that Apple are now selling will change their market and for the first time since the iPad 3/first mini, there is a big reason to consider a 'new unit'.

These Pro units will have long legs, having high speed storage, fast ram, and a killer SoC.

bob, 21 Mar 2016apple days are over overpriced and nothing specialIt is special. It's the only true tablet nowadays. Everything is an oversized , overweight mess that if you cannot use as a tablet for more than 20 minutes.

There is a reason why books are about "10 inches" in diagonal, it's the evolved size for better handling. Everybody else releasing A4 sized tablets should be ashamed, they turned tablets into small laptops. "If you can't beat them, completely change the topic".

I'm not saying that iPad Pro will sell, merely that it is the only true modern tablet out there, instead of half hearted attempts (androids) or a frankestein mish mash (windows tabs).

The screen tech is outstanding, and if like the larger Pro, should support very low refresh rate, and have the 240hz digitiser for the Pencil.

This is for design people; (gpu not good enough?pfft!), the self calibrating screen will be exceptional for 'on the run' edits...

For me the speakers alone make it worth any extra, the sound output is truly awesome.
And the spec increase by being the A9X; A9X is phenomenal, and I am glad this version retains the 4gb of ram. New versions of iOS will really shine on these 'Pro' units.

On a 12" Pro, everything (except iCloud transfer rates) is super fast. iOS has been multitasking fairly well for awhile now, having this much ram on a system that has breathing room when running 1gb is a lil over the top... I can have soooo much 'open' and instantly swap to, and bringing in a second window does allow some easy editing etc...

Good to see some large memory sizes available, and a more affordable unit which still has a reasonable amount of storage.

These will bring Apple into the light, the crazy power of the GPU/SoC, Metals efficiency for the hardware, consistent screen resolutions for developers to work with (all assets being optimised for the final screen output is nice), platform growth is guaranteed, and we will finally see some Apple users replace older iPads; Apple will SEE some tablet sales from quite possibly their saturated tablet market.

Airs may have garnered some unit sales, minis as well. 12" Pro were never going to move mountains, but this variant?!... These will sell out!
