Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable brings fast charging to the iPad Pro

22 March, 2016
Yesterday, Apple also released a new cable, called the Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable. As you can imagine, one end of the cable is a male USB Type-C connector and the other end is a Lightning connector.

I'd love to see a good detailed article on this.....

Most retailers charge top dollar on 'high markup' cables (they price match on the big ticket items, then recoup with the 'add on' sales, like power boards and 'cables')

Buying genuine cables can make a difference.
On occasion I have been denied a firmware upgrade because the connection cable is not genuine. Probably on half a dozen incidents, but I do see evidence that manufacturers can have a different 'spec' part, or a special way of doing things... I would hate to think that they would 'lock out' 3rd party knock offs, but it can be done.

      Not really the issue here.

Whilst we get official adapters with our new products, certainly the cost of buying one of these adapters, direct, with the only benefit being' fast charging', I do not see many people doing this...

People with existing Apple models that come with the adapters, and future purchases that give the adapter would be the likely norm.

For the time it takes to recharge the 12" Pro and the included 10,000mAh battery, a fast charge option is welcomed, and it is great that they included the fast charge controller chip.

I suppose if mulling over buying a second power adapter for the office/second location; I imagine some professionals will now opt for the fast charge capability. I bet THEY don't opt to save fifty dollars for all the potential hassle (typical Apple consumers then, yes?)

Why they didn't put USB Type-C on the Pro from the first place?
          It'd be a great idea

divis200, 22 Mar 201650$ for a FU*KING ADAPTER and 35$ for a FU*KING CABLE?!?!? ... moreI would compare the weight of the parts...

Windings of metal and clever little chips that control the charge current cost money... Your saving might end up hurting the internal battery more than just 'fast charging'.

Fast charging issues can be mitigated; alternate charging types wherever possible (don't use fast charging when it isn't needed). Keep the temperature low, don't fast charge when units are already running hot/whilst intensely using the phone/tablet. Always charge before device hits 20% remaining, and unplug it as soon as you can...

If fast charging is used as a bonus, as a method in emergencies to load up with as much power as possible.. It is a good tech.
If we use it daily, and 'for overnight' charging, we will affect the number of useful charge cycles on our devices negatively.
Android burying the fast charge selection deeper in the control panel (only another page) is frustrating, and not the direction it should be going in.. (Should ask when we plug in)

I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to trash the battery of my $1000 device ... but each to his own I guess...

This gives an indication that other New Releases of Macs in Future will have USB C port, this is Great news for USB C fans!!

50$ for a FU*KING ADAPTER and 35$ for a FU*KING CABLE?!?!? You must be kidding me apple. I can get an adapter and some cables with fast charging capabilities for 10$

Que the year 2020 when Apple will finally introduce fast charging to iPhones and all the iSheeps will piss their pants and Apple will claim to have innovated once more.
