That's a good start for the company's plan, which offers its members to trade-in their old smartphone after 12 months of ownership.

For everyone else, they definitely shouldn't tie themselves with samsung, as other brands step up when needed (lg g5 being the most awesome android in 2016)

And other than that the price of these upgrade programs are comparable to a contract, which you'd still have to pay for separately if you get on Samsung's program. And you also don't get to keep the phone.

If you want stress free upgrading every single year, then its worth it. But its not value for money. The smartphone market has already saturated, many people don't mind having a phone 4 years old, you pretty much have the latest if you stay on a normal 24 month contract with a carrier.

AnonD-442781, 28 Mar 2016Its not worth it if you're bothered to sell your old phone ... moreActually, it's the best thing ever for samsung owners. Think about it, samsung high end phones are sold at half price one year later brand new, which means that you can only hope to sell your used galaxy s or note at 40% of the initial price paid, and on top of that, you will miss out on new features that are exclusive to new device, as samsung is known to not include any new features to already released phones (ex: 7 months old predecessor s6 edge+ will not get always on feature of the s7 edge that is based on software).

It doesnt worth it at all. In 1st year you pay half of the phones price, then change it for new phone and pay 2 more years the full price of the new phone. At the end of the 3rd year you'll end up having one phone for the 50% higher price. If they would let you keep your original phone then it would be OK, otherwise its a rip off.

Its not worth it if you're bothered to sell your old phone or pass it down to someone, I think.
