impressed, 02 Apr 2016Thanks, mate. Such a quality post. I was curious about this... moreI just don't understand it either. All the phones have their pros and cons, yet people get waaay too hostile when someone uses their personal preference. I've have a lot of contact with Sony, HTC, Nexus, Samsung, and now LG. So far, LG G4 has made me more comfortable than the S6 and S7. Only phone company I vow to 100% avoid nowadays is Sony.

They haven't managed to get it through the FCC yet and it won't work with the US G5 models until then. It's a software limitation so support for it can be added once the device gets approved.

So the LG VR camera is device agnostic? It's also sturdy and portable, but the 2K resolution is troubling to me. Being that the new Samsung VR camera has almost twice the resolution of LG's VR camera, I wonder if it could be used with the LG G5. Has anyone tried this yet?

Glad to see this educational post, instead of arguments between fanboys

The external DAC is kinda nice, specially being able to go on USB for a PC DAC or other product. Working as a headphone amp it's amazing, some headphones are hard to drive. But...: "which allows you to playback 32-bit 384kHz Hi-Fi audio" - oooookkk I was about to post a math wall of text about this, but I'll just say that: no file that makes use of this exists outside lab tests. 384 kHz sample rate just means you can play up to 192 kHz frequencies, so if you intend to impress a bat, go on. No, it makes no difference for lower frequencies on the hearing spectrum. 32 bit is the biggest BS I've seen yet, that means 192 dB dynamic range. So, you can play simultaneously a sound you'll never hear cause it's too low intensity, and one that kills you instantly with sound pressure. Sounds legit huh? In fact most (if not all) sound systems can't use the full 24 bit dynamic range (144 dB), seen about 130 as the best yet, and that's enough to make you deaf or hear no difference.
And then: "or up-sample lower quality music." Sorry but this is the same as upscaling pictures. Do they look any better? No? Well that's because the lost information is once lost, you should just either invent something that shouldn't be there to put on the new spaces, or make a mean value: same as nothing. Best case would be that it allows sharper equalizers without distortion and such processing of effects. About what you hear: same thing, seriously.

It's good to see LG sent you guys the HiFi Plus Module, there's no word on an American Launch of the device, but it seems they haven't completely wiped it out of existence! So that's good ^^ Looking forward to what you guys think of it

zodiacfml, 01 Apr 2016Quite amiss. One of the cheapest and most wanted module is ... morespeaker module doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

@zodiacfml3Yf I'm totally agree with you. I would rather love to have a larger battery (3500mAh at least) sealed in, LG phone's battery life is terrible. Last phone they made with good battery life was G2 (up to kitkat).

Quite amiss. One of the cheapest and most wanted module is a larger speaker set and this doesn't have it. Or would be a gaming battery pack that blends well with the G5 as to make the G5 as a long lasting gaming device on long trips.

I can't imagine using any of the available modules they have currently. The camera grip seems to be more as nuisance as it negates the advantage of a smartphone as a camera which is size. That is the primary reason dedicated cameras sales are falling. The DAC is a thoughtless gimmick as higher resolution audio doesn't have value, and if there is, it needs sophisticated headphones\earphones and quiet environment just to hear 3 to 7% (made up number) better audio.
