It's a micro four thirds camera. The sensor sized is implied.

If it's less then APS-C, it's not worth the bother.

I own a Sony a7ii with a couple of lenses, but I only use it if I want more focal length or bokeh or night stots on a tripod. For daily use, smartphones are more than good enough and in good light conditions I made pictures with my Nexus 6p that looked better than the sony shots. From playing around with those micro4thirds and 1 inch cameras, I don't get the point. The image quality is often only as good or in lower light even worse than a good smartphone picture can deliver but you still have to carry around a camera. In that case I can take my full frame camera as well and get at least slightly better pictures. But having a camera with mediocre image quality just to be compact - why would I need that, nothing is more compact than the phone you carry around anyways

Dovice, 05 Apr 2016I own a Panasonix GX8 (and have owned many other dedicated ... moreAs far as i know most people who buy dedicated cameras using their camera as the source of their income, while others use the camera for their hobbies in photography and they want to capture the moments of their life in the highest quality possible.
For me the greatest benefit of using dedicated cameras during the day is a higher dynamic range and I can also get a more pleasant bokeh without the need to get closer to the subject.
If you can not see all the advantages that you can get and think the only best thing with dedicated camera is just viewfinder there is something wrong with you.
Because if you really know how to use your GX8 you'll be able to capture more artistic photos and cinematic videos than anything that you can capture with tiny sensor and 28/26mm fixed lens on S6/S7.

I had the GX7 for a short while, it was a lovely camera with a great image quality.

Akinaro, 05 Apr 2016April fools is over, you can now back to your Facebook qual... moreI own a Panasonix GX8 (and have owned many other dedicated cameras before it), and I have Note 4, and had a day out with an S6. In daylight, stills and 4K video are hard to differential when using 'kit' level lens, it's only when you add a good lens to a camera (such as Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 or Oly 12-40 f2.8 or a prime) that you see the big difference in quality. For day to day photography, IE, 'the camera that is always with you', some of today's phones are pretty good. The greatest benefits of dedicated cameras though are the viewfinder. But phones can upload to the cloud quickly, something I find offers great peace of mind and frees up onboard memory.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 (known as the GX80 outside of North America) is Panasonic's latest mid-range Micro Four Thirds model. It sits in the company's 'GX' series which is used to denote that it's targeted towards dedicated enthusiast photographers but priced as a mid-range model.

No point in buying a dedicated camera these days. Just buy a flagship phone and the camera will be enough for most scenarios. Preferably an S7. G5 is bad.
