On one side it's kind of like you are giving up personality and ownership but on the other you can have more freedom to spend your time for whatever while in transit and having to spend a lot less for it. I think it's a bit far fetched to say it's dystopian because it isn't any more dystopian to take the public transit or even taking taxi than driving your own car. You shouldn't think of this as taking away choices when it is offering more.

Since getting my first car, I have always had things in the car that are unique to me or projects I'm working on, it's a moving toolbox so to speak. None of this will be possible with an all in car sharing society. I do think they will be great for going abroad when you would otherwise use a taxi, as most cars will be self driving by then.

This is what I imagine happening in the future... Very few people will "own" cars. Most people would just be sharing vehicles through these companies.
