Another way of looking at it, is that Sony still support their older phones, just like the Xperia z1 and z2 are recieving the marshmellow update. At least you know with sony they will support your product of choice for a while and besides the z5 premium is still the only 4k display phone on the market so some people might not want the xperia x series which doesnt carry the 4k display or even record in 4k.

I guess the left hand at Sony does not know what the right hand is doing. Why release this now when Sony themselves have announced that they are moving to the new X series line?
