The 5800 ... moreWhen you say the 5800 is the only phone that Nokia has made that has beaten the Apple 3G, what do you mean by beaten? There are obviously features the 5800 has that the iPhone 3G (I presume thats the model you mean?) doesnt have, however the overall experience of the 5800 cannot even be compared to the iPhone 3G! The UI, the browser, the screen response, the Apps support, to say the least, is much better on the 3G.

Obviously its never nice to hear such a good phone have issues but nothing is perfect in life. And if the majority of iPhone 4 customers are happy, why should it bother iPhone haters?

hi all, 01 Jul 2010So effectively speaking, you will be paying more than what ... moreI downloaded iOS 4 for my 3GS on the day of its release, 21st June 2010, and I can tell you its brilliant. Yes there have been certain Apps that were designed to work with 3.1.3 that didnt instantly work with 4.0 but these have all been updated to be compatible. The iOS 4 is not a huge leap in a different direction. Its the same OS with tweeks to allow the user to enjoy the iPhone more. For me there has been no lags, no crashing, no flaw in the functionality of the phone. Some reports say battery life has been affected but I have seen a marginal improvement in my battery life.
Now onto Symbian^3. Symbian in general has been a sluggish OS for a long time. Yeah its old and a lot will say its reliable, but it has had bugs galore for years. Obviously Symbian^3 is the next level and will be better than previous versions. However on looking at a number of videos on YouTube on a hands on review of the N8, you will clearly see that OS will have lags and response issues. Im not saying the N8 is a bad phone but it definately looks like its going down the same road as previous Nokia Symbian phones, most recently the N97 and 5800, both which have frustrated the user on many occasions with system lags, crashes and a tendancy to be unresponsive. Its too early to write off Symbian^3 but from early signs im definately not convinced.

I would rather people just buy a relatively way cheaper 3GS and just do the iOS update, since the main argument you people have is talking about how convenient the iOS is.
Anyway, you guys are making "predictions" on how bad symbian 3 will be even before it's out yet. Have your ever consider if iOS4 is really that flawless and bug free? It's new too, and lots of potential flaws are yet to be discovered. So how sure are your, especially Heartbreak Kid, that iOS4 is free from bugs?

If you cannot deal with it, don't buy it. There are tons of other phones out there. But don't get upset if other people don't see this as a dealbreaker.

I tried holding my HTC Desire in all sorts of manner I could think of, and no signs of signal dropping, because it is using an internal antenna.

We're talking about mass produced devices here. No matter how thorough you test mass produced devices, there would always be faulty or defective ones. The iphone is not a handmade device of limited production. Mass produced devices will always have bugs. Some isolated, some general. As long as the manufacturer provides warranties to either fix or replace your unit, you'll be fine. Question is, how good is that manufacturer in accomodating their users' complaints and how soon do they fix or respond to the identified issues, or if the users find the response acceptable or not.
Obviously, the iphone4's identified issues have not really turned away consumers from getting it.

Anonymous, 30 Jun 2010The iphone's death grip issue is not totally a hardware pro... moreWhilst I criticise Nokia's poor customer service, and it's habit of releasing phones with problems, I still like them. I actually like Samsung and SE especially for their sudden adoption of Android.
Before rushing out the latest designs, mobile companies should be testing their devices more thoroughly. There's no excuse for releasing a 4 - 5 hundred pound phone with bugs and an unstable OS. Or even design flaws.
I think we can all agree on one thing here. More care must be taken, and simply beta testing a device with a group of people who are simply glad to be doing it isnt enough. The consumers have become the beta testers nowdays.
I go back to the N95. Which, while a great phone, couldnt even multitask properly until v20 of it's OS was released. Only after a year was it fully functional.

The software is supposed to pick up when a signal loss is occuring and switch to alternative frequencies so signal cannot be totally lost. Like switching from 3g to edge. They have identified that there is a significant delay with the ios4 using other alternatives when needed, and that is the parr that the software update can fix. As far as the placement of antenna is concerned, like Steve said, that is a fact of life with mobile phones. All phones have sensitive spots. Even nokia devices may lose signal bars when held the bad way.
And please don't say that Apple couldn't get it right like all nokia phones are flawless out of the box. A lot of people obviously would rather deal with iphone4 issues than nokia devices' issues.

The so called Home button is just a menu button.
"Rather than have a Home Button, then a Menu button" - They both do the same thing, just the name, Man..
Symbian only have 7 buttons...
- The Power button also used to quickly change profiles instantly.
- The menu button, held down to task manager, which you rarely have to use since all the needed apps are right there on the Homescreen, specially if you use SPB....
-The volume buttons and Camera button.
- the Red and green buttons, you don't even have to use them, thats why the new devices like N8 does not even have them..
You only really use 4 buttons, the Menu, Power and volume buttons..
Seen the N8 videos, it is not at all slugish, yes its a few mili seconds slower than iOS but I would gladly sacrifice those milliseconds for all that power and functionality..
Any Bugs on Nokia phones are software related and are quickly fixed with firmware updates so they are not very important...Can't say the same about the Iphone 4 can we? - Software cannot really solve antenna problems... Did you read my Memo?
BTW, Unlike Apple, Nokia releases many phones every year and they still manage to keep up the good quality and customer support to all of them, even a new update is due next week to my 2 year old 5800.
-Apple only releases 1 phone per year and they still cannot get it right. Haven't you heard about the huge return problem due to the faulty antenna?

Its good no doubt but I much prefer Safari! And Atomic is based on the Safari platform but with more features, so of course Safari is good! :)
LOL Yes all phones have a home screen, the iPhone has everything tidied up the use of single home screen button, a mute button, with volume keys on the side and a power on/off button the top. Rather than have a Home Button, then a Menu button, the a back button, then a search button, then a Camera button, then volume keys, then a Power on/off/sleep button, then a another scroll button......Wow so many buttons im sure i've missed a few more, what a waste! Just a few buttons are really required!
And the N8? We both know Symbian is slow, sluggish, basically its bug ridden! The N8 may have Symbian^3 but its unproven. Lets see how the N8 fares, high chances it will be another Nokia that has failed to live up to expectation!!! And that will be another blow for Nokia :)

BILLION of "complicated" UI users speaks more for itself.
Obviously billions of people prefer something that can serve them better than something that is easy to use, because it has practically no use.

They call it the Main Menu... LOL
Just press the Menu key to access it in a Symbian. If you want to make it even more like Iphone, just dump all your apps on to the main menu screen and don't use folders!

5800 was made to beat the Iphone 3G and it did.
Why do you need this Atomic Browser on the Iphone to see the full real web, doesn't safari do that, atleast even without Flash?
The only reason Safari on iphone is good is because it is very simple and not very intensive...
Any phone can deliver a great browser if it does not need to worry about flash and has simple versions of web pages made for it.
Try Opera Mobile on touch symbian.... Very fast over any connection and very simple just like safari bacause it need not worry about Flash..
If you need Flash you can use like Skyfire or Diagia (for full flash), or even the new updated native browser. (for some flash content)

The iPhone folders can be organised so I can use many different weather Apps. Hows having a weather wallpaper making the HTC Sense an overall easier phone to use? lol
Many users want a clean UI. There are many Apps that suit all types of users, but at the end of the day having many buttons on the phone for different areas is kinda pointless when you can actually intergrate the functions within one area. The iPhone has 1 home screen button to access many different areas of the phone via the screen, whats wrong with that?
If you personally like a complex OS which is unnessassary then thats up to you! Millions of iPhone customers speak for itself :)
