I downloaded and saw the photo on my PC monitor.What I saw,is lot worse than my first impresions.Granted its completely different thing when you see a photo on monitor or printed.Noise is overwelming on dark parts,and not just luminance noise... but also blotched pixels and artifacts from noise reduction algoritm.The lighter (better lit parts) look good,but without texture when you try to inspect them up close... again thanks to the Sony agresive algoritm.This comes as no surprise to me,as it is exactly as my Sony's working! And I have M4 aqua(in my family),and before i had Z and Z2.
Back on subject,EXIF shows 1/40 sec shuter speed and ISO50 on F2.0 aperture.Clearly the photographer(or the phone itself) wanted the lowest ISO,but that doesnt help that much with containing the noise.And whats more,that shows that the scene wasnt very dark in the first place!More like sunset or just after that(while daylight is still aviable to extent).
Anyway,our discussion was "if the EIS could compensate the lack of OIS" or which one is better?!
Sadly this photo proves nothing,because 1/40 sec is easily menaged hendheld even without OIS or EIS :D
I hope very soon will have the oportunity to see newer Sony's in action,and especially to see if they menaged to improve their weak spot ie low light photography.

They do promise a new highly adaptive shutter speed, along with fastest hybrid autofocus of 0.03sec and predictive focus.
Seems its working...

But forgive me for being suspicious.One photo for which don't know how it was taken or what was the light or anything doesnt prove the point.
Quick analyse:The water fountain was "frozen" which indicate high shooter speed,and thats in contrary to what this scene should be "low light condition". Also the noise is too low.... Unbelivably low for such condition! That confuse me to the point of thinking something fishy is going on : /
Anyway will try to download it and see if there is EXIF data... but am to tired right now

Yup EIS is good,but only in capturing video.For stills when sometimes you get shutter speed of 1/10 or 1/15 sec EIS can't do anything.
And the article you point to me says clearly "eis for video stabilisation"! What isn't clear there?
P.S.and even worse,I have learned that Sony is shrinking their pixels and their sensors when the laws of physics says its better the opposite?!?

There are quite enough reviews and blind tests to prove your opinion about z5 camera is faulty
Theres a recombu review of Xperia X camera (imx 318?) with full res lowlight shots that indicate it ll be best camera for lowlight too
But you have a right to your opinion...

C'mon you can do better.... Every tech is great on paper,we should see it working in real life to know how good is it actually.
And the autor clearly speculate that the IMX318 has the same features like the IMX300.And for one I know he is talking rubbish,that moment when I've read "Z5 The hybrid autofocus that it was packing was devilishly quick and its low-light photography was pretty amazing."
No hate at all to Sony btw

The Z5 series still do good, in terms of design, specs and camera. For me at least. If you're not a fan of glass material, then the X series might do you good :)

Main issue with Sony is software optimisation with their cameras, I can promise you that the camera will not be in the upper tier of next gen phones. I have a z5 premium myself, and while it's good, it has many flaws. The only thing I can say that it is the best at taking is, outdoor landscapes.
What annoys me the most is how other mobile phones can produce a much higher quality picture on average, using the same Sony sensors - due to the fact that their software and camera optimisation is much much better...

People hate Sony for a reason. Why would you buy this over stock Android? It looks the same but you get updates much quicker.. Also the design is ugly as hell.
