Samsung developing a 1/1.7" camera sensor for upcoming flagships

The new sensor is purported to have an aperture as wide as f/1.4 and would be in the 18-24MP range.

I think that this is fake news. A f/1.4 lens for a 1/1.7" sensor would have a larger aperture than the Panasonic Cm-1 lens. Sounds very good indeed, but likely not realistic, especially because dual cameras exist.
This would have to be a special camera phone like the Galaxy K Zoom.

        I search pureview 808 in gsmarena and it is not f/1.3. It said f/2.4. Who you people trying to lie? Lame.

                      Nokia 808 had a 1/1.3 inch and an ND filter. Samsung please try harder. This 1/1.7 inch won't be enough to beat the 808 and with aperture as wide as f1.4 they better include an ND filter or the highlights will be blown to bits. Even in S7's f1.7 the highlights are uncontrollably blown in broad daylight.

Samsung has done a great job on upgrading the sensor size not the megapixel. Aperture has increased so low light experience is better.

If only samsung has thought of this at the same time nokia did, then who knows what would be their camera setup now. Good for samsung on stepping up and redefining the existing products.
