Acer unveils Switch Alpha 12 detachable PC with liquid cooling

21 April, 2016
Acer is holding a pretty big event today, and one of the things it's announced is the Switch Alpha 12, a "detachable PC" as the Taiwanese company calls it. It's a 2-in-1 device that can be used either as a tablet or as a laptop, and it runs Windows 10 as you'd expect.

I mean that common (or conventional) radiator with fan where we can found on cars, motorcycles, and overclocked PCs. Though, I don't know how mobile devices like Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950/XL, etc achieve the dissipation step without fan. I'm still not grasp their method of heat dissipation.

Johnny, 21 Apr 2016you are a bit stupid, before u say something in public spac... moreI mentioned it in comparison of heat generation in laptop its quite high... So then they must be using convection cooling.. And btw being a mechanical engineer I think I am well over qualified than you to raise the topic and counter it I was making a general statement.

I'm glad such solutions start popping up. The surface pro is very good, but still not great, and it's very overpriced. I hope such things drop the prices of the new Surface devices and make them better. Unfortunately, only the surface has magnetic charging, which is the only reason I really prefer it over the other devices.

I bought a surface pro 4 with about 1000 euro, almost same specs. During the week I owned it was replaced 1 time because of the many faileaures. The second one had also a lot of problems so i took it back and got my money. If the battery is at least as good as surface and it will be reliable i will probably buy this tablet.

But for standard factory setting processors, you don't always need fan. Lumia 950/XL for example. It has liquid cooling to tackle the heat of SD 808/810 and it does not utilise fan.

Apple's ipad pro is not a OSX laptop. The Acer is a full Windows machine and should be compared against the relevant model Mac not an ipad.

Srb Srb, you are a genius, I just have one question, the iPad is lighter but is there an i3 / i5 / i7 iPad? Again, you are a genius.

And the base model starts at 599$ (with 4 gigs of ram, intel i3 cpu and 128 gb ssd, with keyboard included, pen sold sepatatley for extra 50$) wich is one more proof that ipads are worthless overpriced pieces of..s..garbage.

Liquid cooling still needs a fan bcoz of the necessary radiation of heat from the Liquid...? They can't get compression in that thing
