I will agree on that price, they are going premium. Pricing like Apple now...
I am not ready to pay that kind of money for a phone, so yes, if that price is right, wont be buying anything new from Sony.
But as I love Sonys quality, I ll buy when prices drop. ;-)

Seriously, like i said many times in the X performance comment section.
A Z3 or Z2 would be a better option than any X Series phone.
Just imagine how cheap these 2 year old Sony phones are now if you can still find them.
I know hear in Aus, JB HiFi sell Z2 at only $300. (160 Pounds)

So their midrange phone has same price as base model S7.
Dont be surprised if the X performance cost more or the same as the S7 Edge.
Im a Sony fan, but its Samsung or nothing now.
