WhatsApp launches native Mac OS and Windows apps

11 May, 2016
Turns out the rumors were true, as WhatsApp has now officially announced a new desktop app. "Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device," the company said in a blog post.

The reason it require your phone to be online is quite simple. The messages are persisted only in your phone (not even in whatsapp servers!), All other clients read from your phone.

I think the move would potentially bring voice calling and other goodies, gradually to native app.

Vito1, 11 May 2016What's the benefit of this over web versionDoes the desktop version support document uploading?

Does this need to connect our phone's account too over the same wifi like we do on whatsapp for web or it is a standalone app like on our smartphone?
can we create entirely a different account like we can on our phone?

World governments tend to do this without the foreknowledge of people who's info they find. Private corporations just try and make it trendy.
