AnonD-119121, 15 May 2016Believe me I am the of the oldest whatsapp user since 2008.... moreyeah, it's fun to type on small on screen keyboards 500-1000 letters when you can say it in minute(s)..
of course it will always dominate! as we happen to move to the ever faster pacening future, the faster our future days become the more time we can afford by wasting it with typing and not dictating or showing visually.. clearly!

Believe me I am the of the oldest whatsapp user since 2008... Tons video calling app are there.... Video calling is just a fantasy feature for most of the time or a toy for kids to play.. Even Voice call is getting rare.. You do voice call only if its really really important and urgent ... Otherwise Just leave the message and otherside will reply you.... Text messaging will always remain dominating feature all the time.

nanoprog, 15 May 2016I don't get it: was it not bought by fb? as they have their... moreWhatsapp and FB messenger are two entirely different things! Facebook may have bought it but they both operate independently! and both have their own plans and their own way of executing things! Remember.. the operational head of Whatsapp has never changed!
now, to be practical, I don't use FB messenger at all.. and just for the sake of video call I won't even install FB messenger, so its a good news if Whatsapp will directly provide me with video call! We need a single proper communication app not hundreds!

Eventually they had to bring video call feature and they did it. But it hurts to see that they still don't support gifs. *slow claps*
