Netflix launches fast.com, a simple speed test website

19 May, 2016
Netflix wants you to keep tabs on how fast your internet connection is. That’s why it trademarked and launched a data speed test app that launches instantly as soon as you enter the website www.fast.com. This is likely to help customers who are having trouble with their internet connections to identify the issues fast.

Surely they couldn't possibly give priority to your data when they detect you making use of the service, I mean... that shouldn't be right, right?

My test result from fast.com is 4 to 5.2 mbps max, but Spedtest.net result is ±8 mbps which is what I paid for. So why different results, is it "To calculate this estimate, Fast.com performs a series of downloads from Netflix servers"...limited speed from Netflix?

Humaid, 19 May 2016The test results are far from being correct, with fast.com ... moreSame here, but that might just be because my ISP "secretly" throttles Netflix and YouTube speeds.

Anonymous, 19 May 2016Some problen is their. I am using 2g on my old nokia. Site ... moreSure it's not kbps, because that's what mine says. Read the letters!!!

Anonymous, 19 May 2016Some problen is their. I am using 2g on my old nokia. Site ... moreThere is difference between Mb(Megabit) and MB(Megabyte)
                  1 megabit/second = 0.125 megabytes/second

Just saying, so some people can understand that most of internet providers like to set BIG numbers of speed when in real life its not that fast....
And they never use proper form of MB/s or mbps that is actually important.

This is brilliant. I don't need an app anymore to check my connection's speed, albeit only the download speed.

The test results are far from being correct, with fast.com I get 13 Mbps, where my actual speed goes over 80 Mbps.

Worth noting: It doesn't use Flash, so you can run it in a mobile web browser! Nice to be able to do a speed test without having to download an app.
