Chrome OS devices have outsold Macs in the US for the first time ever

19 May, 2016
For the first time since Chrome OS was launched, devices running Google's operating system have outsold Apple's Macs in the US in the first quarter of this year. The data comes from IDC, though an exact number for Chrome OS device sales hasn't been given.

OS X IS a full OS. Obviously you never used one. I use it as my primary OS. I run Parallels on the side to simultaneously run windows 10 because there are many apps on Windows that I need that are not on OS X. One thing I don't like about OS X is that it used up all of its ram and slows down easily. Windows is much efficient at using ram.

LinuxIsAmazing, 20 May 2016You are showing the world how ignorant you really are. Yo... moreI actually know a lot about this - and although Linux runs on these machines, it will perform poorly, and will have certain issues with battery, screen, screensaver, drivers, etc. so this is not a good option at all.

And if you want to use those millions of phone apps in the Playstore, you can use your phone or in the worst case - an Android tablet. These apps are just too limited and have no real value or extra usability on screens larger than 5.5 inches.

Anonymous, 20 May 2016Why would you compare the sales of an under-developed phone... moreYou are showing the world how ignorant you really are. You do realize that you add to Chrome OS, you can run full Ubuntu if you want Ed to with ease. You could then run steam for Linux as well. Not to mention you will have access to Google's play store, and run millions of Android apps.

Anonymous, 20 May 2016Why would you compare the sales of an under-developed phone... moreOS x is not even a full blown os, it's good for people who edit photos and produce music. When it comes to daily tasks nothing will replace windows and linux

Why would you compare the sales of an under-developed phone OS netbook with a full-blown OS laptop such as a Macbook?

Chrome OS is a toy and is pretty much useless when you try to do anything else than browse the web on it. And even web browsing is not that great on it.

These being said, Chrome OS devices are just dumbed-down versions of cheap Windows netbooks.

Anonymous, 19 May 2016Well MacBook is much more expensive and I belive chromebook... moreNot even close. It may be the best Mac OS laptop, but is quite farm from the top league of laptops (all of them being windows OS). Damn, it's not even close to what a surface book can do... "best laptop" that was cute xD

For me this doesn't make much sense as Chrome books are not direct competitors to Mac.. thought it makes sense in a way... having steady market share might allow more premium products with this OS.. which is always good. As well person buying Mac for 10x the price not exactly getting better computer either.

But these numbers indicate growing popularity of ChromBook OS as against MacBook OS..May be too soon to declare anything.

Please do the price point analysis and then post comparisons. Chromebook's are half the price of an decide running Mac.

This is like comparing trading of Gold and Cement and then analysing which was sold in larger Quantities.

Microsoft has failed miserably with the Surface RT which would otherwise be a good device for the primary schools. Then it would be a natural path to Surface or Surface Pro to secondary schools
