Judgementday, 26 May 2016Hopefully the robots wont get smarter and we end up like te... moreDun worry the OS they are most likely to absorb is iOS so no issue there, they won't be that smart.

1+ for fighters against manual labor. While politicians could care less and go for numbers, foxconn makes real progress, well it's not like they can employ those people, but its better than treating them like some machines... If government was prepared to do a transition from those kinds of jobs(they should in this age), nobody would be surprised by this right now.

Well... On the bright side, that's 60000 less people being subjected to the horrible working conditions in their factories! Yay! Of course, now they're going to die for entirely different reasons, but hey, you can't have everything!

A robot is more cost effective than a human worker for the simple fact that for a company to have one employee it costs double his salary not to mention any administrative tasks required and paid for month to month, no training necessary or any kind of education to do the job. The robot does not take breaks, the robot does not need a parking space or any kind of facility that we use day to day. The robot works faster, can work 24/7 and can be replaced very fast in case of malfunction and can be adapted to other tasks faster than training someone. Any way you look at it it is much cheaper and cost effective. I don't like it but those are the facts.

The figures were based on the costs of robots vs humans.
Energy cost for the company, and buying the robot arms, vs energy cost and pay for the human.
It missed the point of effectivity and working hours, where a robot could make up for some of the additional cost, by working 24/7 without a single break and it perhpas even performs every task quicker than a human. However robots tend not to work perfectly all the time.

The energy used by a human to get to work, usually does not effect the energy cost of the company, the same is true for food. But there are workplaces with commuter busses, and included meals, and perhaps that is true for foxconn.

Computers have better memory than the human brain (computers are better doctors), and robots are better workers than the human body (robots are better surgeons), while being human = being creative!

We have to find ways to tax "production" regardless if it is made by humans or robots, because robots, and computers, will take over almost every job, not only in manufacturing but any/every job that is not creative! Doctors can easily be replaced by computers that know every diagnosis to every symtom, the human rain can not, and robots are far better surgeons than any human!
There is no need yo move jobs the the human "robots" in China when metal robots can do the same for the same cost in Europe...!

Anonymous, 26 May 2016one robot arm uses 3KW electricity, human use only 10w lamp... moreVery simplistic way to look at it. A human doesn't just consume power for the lamp. A human uses a lot of energy from food in order to perform the same job and even more so just to warm his/her body. Also a human commutes to and from work every day which requires quite some energy. And in respect to money for the human one has to pay social security, pension, sick leave, etc. So the pay back period for the robot is waaayyy shorter than what you claim.
