i like the idea of this card, affordable vr card and very good price but what this is telling me is amd aren't able to push out cards fast enough anymore compared to NVidia, most likely due to there financial situation, if they weren't in trouble then they should have had the 490x as well as this card. this is not a good sign as we need amd for competition. I have nvidea cards but I want to see amd do well as well coz competition is a good thing but this worry's me coz it shows us they really cant compete at the high end on the same time scale as nvidea, I hope it dosent end up like the processor (really far behind)

not a fan of SLI/Crossfire so i don't know if i'll be using two of these to match gtx 1000 series performance. 2x RX 480 may defeat gtx 1080 in benchmarks but i don't think games will get same FPS since not all games like sli/crossfire setup.
packs a punch for the price though. go RED!

AnonD-442287, 01 Jun 2016You didn't get the 3.5/4 joke i guess. :p It's hard to detect sarcasm in the text, so yeah, it went unnoticed I'm afraid XD There was an equal chance for you to be serious about it.

DarkReed, 01 Jun 2016Explain it please!i could be wrong, but this is what i know:
The GTX 970 has a memory issue which Nvidia tried to hide on launch. the 4GB of VRAM is actually 3.5GB + 0.5GB VRAM. the 0.5GB is slower compared to the rest so it causes FPS dips in some games that use more than 3.5GB VRAM. Some gamers reported games freezing or crashing when VRAM usage crossed 3.5GB. so basically, only 3.5GB is useful VRAM out of 4GB VRAM. that's why, i rate the GTX 970 a 3.5/4.
3.5/4 refers to the VRAM of the card; 3.5 out of 4 GB is fast & useful. i hope i cleared the concept.

Crossfire two of these and you're already close, at equal or even exceed the 1080 performance yet still $200-$300 cheaper! Hmm. However an Nvidia fanboy look at it, that crazy!

AnonD-376219, 01 Jun 20162x RX 480 in crossfire are as powerful as a gtx 1080 Gtx 1... moreHaha, I have this kind of performance for 2 years for $550 (2x gtx 970s).

Saying that buying twin cards is a good move it's only because they don't know what they're talking about.

More latency, some games don't support it well, others don't support it at all (just cause 3 anyone?). It's a non serious propitious to say that any twin card setup is a better value, there is a reason why twin polarised are cheaper and that's not because they are a better value.

If would want gtx 1080 performance buy a gtx 1070 for $370 and jack up the clocks. Cheaper than twin polarised, half the power consumption and better performance in most occasions ...

AMD should start getting serious, else nobody will take them seriously...

And it uses HBM2 which is more expensive than GDDR5X. So it won't be cheap, and by the time we get there, a new nVidia series will be near launch too.

There's a lot of both good and bad I can say about Nvidia, and some things about AMD, but overall I'm far more satisfied with Nvidia products I've used in the past than those AMD products I've used, so I'll keep buying green cards for a while longer.

                                      2. the RX 480 will be faster and more efficient than these 2 cards
                                      3. Developers want powerful efficient, mainstream cards. The RX 480 is mainstream card that can perform as good as the 390x/980 for $220 (8gb vesion)
                                      4. AMD will announce later this year their high end card Vega (HBM2) That card will compete with the 1080ti. Because Nvidia as always will screw their users who bought the 1080 by releasing the 1080ti in 3-4 months at the same price.
