The Instagram apocalypse is nigh, algorithmic feed goes live for everyone

03 June, 2016
Back in March Instagram created a rift in the time-space continuum when it announced that it was going to test a new, algorithmic way of sorting its users' photo feeds. This came after years upon years of greatly coveted reverse-chronology, so understandably many were very, very upset. Celebrities mostly, but still.

Sort by:

  • Jason

Give people an option to select the type of setting they want. Period. Don't force certain posts down people throats. This new algorithm it's annoying. Stories/posts are all jumbled up

"Yet people all across the internet know that's just an excuse and this is nothing but a Facebook and Instagram backed conspiracy against poor celebrities who post only 50 to 60 selfies each day."

    I loled, indeed.

In conspiracies you don't get options. Best slution:
Someone needs to make a new app!

This is the best solution, agree with you :))

I agree, I miss a lot of posts but as the same time I can't turn on notification for all. Grid view is another good option to give. At least instead of one at a time, I can see 6 to 9 tiles.

Why we can't have both? Provide a setting to sort by user preference?

AnonD-205566, 04 Jun 2016People seem to be missing the point here... It's not that y... moreLOL! I get what you're saying, but here's my thing. Sometimes accounts you don't necessarily interact with on a daily will make a post youd like to see, that then gets pushed to the bottom of the pile. One day i might interact heavily with one page for whatever reason, then after that, I'm on to another. I'm probably one of the few who will actually check through my feeds ro see what's up. So, i don't like the new old plan. I wish they'd just leave it be.

i actually lost some content, because the less popular people i follow did not show up in my feed. instead I get a lot of repeat posts

People seem to be missing the point here... It's not that you'll get on your feed what everyone watches the most (celebrity crap, mostly), but rather that your feed will show stuff uploaded by accounts YOU interact the most with. So if you keep liking and sharing stuff by McDonald's, Daft Punk and Albert Hitchcock (for whatever reason you might blend those together in one sitting) that's what Instagram will put on your feed first, not what Kim Kardashian is uploading. If you don't give a rat's ass about your coworkers and don't check their accounts either, that'll be at the bottom of your feed.
                  Calm yo' tits everyone

If this happen, what I will only see is celebrities and not my friend...this will make me unfollow them..

So basically, people will miss even more stuff now that only the most popular stuff gets first priority on the feed. So what's the point in following less popular people now? And there's a chance you wouldn't get to see some of your friend's photos unless you go directly to their own walls.
