Bluetooth 5 is coming soon with better range and speed for low energy transmissions

08 June, 2016
The new standard is being worked on by the Bluetooth SIG at the moment, and will be officially unveiled on June 16.

AnonD-387282, 09 Jun 2016everything is possible nowadays. why are you all poeple are... moreI know. Newer version tech will always more efficient from it's predecessor. But that doesn't mean it automatically outrun it's competitor. Now, can you tell me how much is exactly the efficiency gain of the WiFi 2 compared to current WiFi? 10th times more efficient? 20th times more efficient? FYI, sending data at the rate of 75 bytes per second over WiFi requires approximately 80 milliwatts of electrical power. Sending data at the same rate over Bluetooth consumes only 2 milliwatts. So that's 40th times more efficient. Unless WiFi 2 can achieve this level of efficiency, I don't think it can replace Bluetooth.

IMO, their efficiency rate still pretty much on stalemate. WiFi 2 goes more efficient compared to it's predecessor, so does Bluetooth 5. The only game changing is the battery. If someday we can produce battery with higher capacity in smaller form factor, only then we can start to ignore the efficiency difference and go straight to WiFi instead of Bluetooth. As long as it's enough for people to charge it once per one~two days, then Bluetooth maybe will out of the picture. But for now, it's not even reach that potential.

AnonD-387282, 10 Jun 2016Go back to stone age man. as I've said ealier why are you a... moresame. I gave you facts that bluetooth is still a widely used feature, but you still claim the same. Nevermind I'm wasting my time. Just go outside and ask people yourself.. see what they think.

BT is less energy consuming than WiFi if it comes to short-mid range file transfers or short-range internet sharing. Also it is the most commonly used protocol for connecting in cars hands-free functionalities. Those who say BT is dead are braindead.

AnonD-387282, 09 Jun 2016bluetooth is dead, wi-fi is much more faster, 10 - 100 time... moreYou get on my nerves boy. Bluetooth is dead? Give me a break baby, not everyone uses technology like they are robots, neither everyone uses high end devices.
(the robot mentioning is a fact about turning people into technology slaves, and it is happening).

Just today I used bluetooth btw, just today. My friend wanted a photo I took and bam, bluetooth. But yeah bluetooth is dead.

See not everyone is a technology slave, not everyone uses high end devices. Most are pinpointing our location anyway, so why should people do it?
Believe it or not nerd bluetooth is the most commonly used feature for content sharing and device wireless connections.. still is.

Wifi speaker is sure does viable. But I don't think we will see wifi earphone in the near future. Our battery technology still not reach that stage.
