Instead that could have been 4000mAh battery and 4gb RAM. I wouldn't matter and a thicker phone, as long as it has curved sides instead of rectangular one of Oneplus two.

Remove following line from the build.prop, with your own risk! Improve RAM management, but may drain battery faster:
ro.sys.fw.bg_apps_limit=20

I have been testing the phone for 2 days and i like it in every aspect.
Great battery life, multi tasking is good for normal user, no lag, device is not heating and fastest charging.i.e 0-100% in 65 minutes.
Hats off to one plus

OnePlus: "Hey! Lets put 6GB of RAM on next device, but we not gonna use it because we gonna put weak battery in it too!!!"
Also even after that change phone still NOT gonna use that memory, Android doesnt use RAM like that, and thats why such big numbers of RAM are useless because of Android is self that use heavy paging and mapping of memory not to mention that it sets a hard limit on the heap size for each app.
Think about it as Windows XP/7 when system it self could use only 2Gb of actual RAM even if you had 8-16GB, because Windows uses a virtual address space of 4 GB, with 2 GB allocated to user-mode processes(apps) and rest 2GB for kernel-mode processes(system processes and drivers)
Its actually still problem in Windows10 and 7 because apps and system it self is build in way to use this "average" numbers, not to mention that most of 32bit Games and Applications have bottleneck of using allocated memory(large-address-aware) and they just cant use all your 8-16GB RAM.
For example you can start games like Skyrim with 16GB of RAM and it would work the same way as you would have 6Gb or even 4GB.
When I switched to 16GB I also expected that browsers and apps will give me huge boost but it actually work the same as I had 4 and 8GB... Because most of apps and system dont use such amount of memory.

korbindallis, 18 Jun 2016Let's see what OnePlus has in an update the new update 3.1.2 made op3 slighty faster (by a couple of seconds) but still didn't fix the ram management issue and with the founder of OP saying that this strategy ( aggressive ram management) is the best for a great experience , i highly doubt there'll be an update that will fix this , unless everyone boycotts the op3 sales and they are forced to fix things so the sales continue , i don't see any other way around this.

OnePlus devices have always been focused on people who are enthusiasts. The most appealing part about OnePlus One was the Cyanogen OS, having unlockable bootloader and having all the sources available to users. Being a person who always used custom ROMs, Its a smart move having raw unused horsepower under the hood waiting to be unleashed yet giving normal users best battery life.

And there you have it. With an Android phone, no matter the specs, you will still have some performance issues.
That's why Windows and iOS (and BBOS) are the only reliable ones and you can expect any phone that runs either of these to perform without a hiccup.

after seeing it gets beaten on every sted from s7, i cancelled the phone. i know op3 is a cheaper phone, but i expected better performence, with the cleaner os. but it seems like the bloated samsung is better.

Too many wrong things going on here.
First, the tweak doesn't seem to address the problem fully or correctly. It is just setting for background apps/games that stay in the background for notifications or updates. If you have software/app that disables unused apps (e.g. Greenify), it has the same effect.
One Plus' reply is valid as the default setting is to save battery life. I don't like background apps except of course for messaging apps.
The problem though is memory management. It seems that the OS thinks it has fewer RAM it can use or it immediately removes the last third or more recent apps from memory after closing. It is perfectly fine though as users doesn't need the similar multitasking ability of a desktop computer.
The source of the problem is the 6GB spec. Simply, we can't take advantage of it for now, probably in two years maybe for some VR or game that could use most of it; like consuming around 3 GB RAM just for one app.

i you do it right the chrome app itself can take up half of that ram....so maybe 20 apps is an ok thing...but its better to have a real ram manager that can prevent apps from turning on(like i have this medical drug dictionary that i turn on in once an year, but i'm loathe to delete it) and giving a control gui for number of apps to be loaded in ram..something similar to switchable graphics on laptops

I'm ok with everything software related... but the battery is definitely not ok for me
