Pretty crap hardware, good software. I see no hope for the future of the smartphone industry, it is ailing. Yeah, we keep getting the ' mine's bigger than yours'' argument in regards to the ghz BS, the truth is it's just the same, only a few seconds or more faster than a 1ghz phone. What else is innovating?
Oh that's right, stupid HD video recording to be put on every smartphone from 2010 onwards as a gimmick. Seriously, the market is slowly dying, people will tire of the same old stale ideas being recyclyed to them again and again, where is the innovaton and originality? All we're hearing about is: Android 2.2 on Galaxy s, Droid 1, Hero to get 2.2 in some random country in this year, THAT IS NOT THE BREAKTHROUGH NEWS FOR SMARTPHONES. That is ALL we've been hearing this year, very little in the way of new inventions and hardware that wows people with good use of materials, yes we keep hearing about how the future of smartphones will affect us, but to this day the average consumer still uses a phone to call and text and will use camera, an ORIGINAL and innovative idea dating back to 2002, since then very little has changed. Yes the quality has improved, but what else are these milking for cash manufacturers coming up with that is original? Granted we are seeinng neat inventions with the Augmented Reality and Google street view maps on your phone and helping you to pinpoint where your friends are live via geotagging, which was unimaginable just 4 years ago. This is where we should carry on improving the tech like we have the cameras, not about pointless upgrades to the OS where they should have been polished in the first place. I hope to God that the ugly ass android interface is polised to something similar to the TEGRA demos 2 years ago, the current crop of Android 2.2 user interface looks like a throwback to the 2005 era , using ugly and ageing icon based interfaces, WP7 looks interesting but it is far from a polised product and MS seem to have shot themselves in the foot by not allowing customisations, how bland does WP7 UI look with that plain black background and yes, the coloured and dreaded ICON INTERFACE AGAIN. it looks like the Vodafone 360, itself an appaling concept.
So, all we got from the past three years were GPS (already available with the N95 but polised), Augmented reality and HD video recording which can hardly be passed off as HD with the exception of Sony and Nokia's examples. Ghz doesn't cut the mustard, again the average consumer does not care or know about the RAM/Ghz and Froyo (for the millionth time). they are your market audience, not geeks like those who know thier strut, they are the majority and have the spending power. Give something that wows them, not a rehash of something that's been done before and add an extra .1 ghz to a phone wetting a fanboy geeks pants. I hate Apple, I seriously do but considering the original Iphone changed the way we use our smartphones has affected the entire market, we need to be inventive again to prevent the industry from going stale, which unfortunately, it already is.

WP 7 just keeps surfacing on LG hardware. It looks like they are the only manufacturer taking it seriously, VERY BAD START! LGs are pretty lousy. Looks like there will be no Motorola or Sony Ericsson WP 7 phone. And HTC will do it just for the sake of it, but the truth is their heart is firmly with Android now. Samsung will make anything, running any OS, WinMO, Android, Symbian - they really don't care. They have buckets of money to experiment with anything. I bet they'd make a iOS phone if Apple allowed it. Looks like Microsoft need to chase up the likes of Acer and Dell who are still trying to make names for themselves in the smartfone market. Even HP is lost since they are concentrating on WEB OS now.

@ppp , 31 Aug 2010I know that most people associate the word 'droid' with any... morewell ... it makes sense what you're writing, however 'droid' is no longer exclusive to Motorola as it used to be ;) So calling any Android based smaarphone a droid is not wrong IMHO, still others may consider it unsound ;) peace ^^

I know that most people associate the word 'droid' with any smartphone running on the Android OS. This is exactly my point. The word 'droid' was made famous by Verizon Wireless when they ran continuous ads for the Motorola Droid. Most people got so used to hearing that they began to associate the word to every other Android phone. That's wrong. Android is different from Droid, don't get it wrong with the rest of the people out there.

Very much looking forward to Windows Phone 7, heard great things about it. But i will be waiting till some other company like HTC makes one. The whole LG thing puts me of, LG is still to make one single stable phone since they started, horrible handsetmaker.

Who wrote this article? The LG E720 Chic is NOT a droid. The Droid is Verizon's Android line (Motorola Droid, Droid X, Droid 2, HTC Droid Eris, Droid Increadible) and not an LG Model. This only lets me know that whoever wrote this article is not as educated or knowledgable on the topic as he/she should be. Way to loose your creadibility there, GSM Arena.

Alui, 31 Aug 20101.3 GHz for Windows? Of course:). Android does not need fas... morefor the fun of it, for innovation, to create apps that can do more
you can't stop innovation just because your statusfyed
a long time ago people believed you wouldn't need more than 2GB in phones, now look
phones have 32GB with expandable N900, N97 etc..

1.3 GHz for Windows? Of course:). Android does not need faster procs than 1 GHz. I have a Galaxy S and I cannot see how getting a faster proc is necessary. Really, for a 4 inch screen with 480x800 res with 512 MB (not all used) and separate GPU, why would you need a faster proc? It will just consume more battery for nothing extra.
