SanDisk unveils 256GB microSD cards in Ultra and Extreme forms

29 June, 2016
The Ultra is UHS-I Class 1, the Extreme is UHS-I Class 3. And no, microSD naming conventions don't make much sense.

      AnonD-171420, 29 Jun 2016 How many GB are real , the 128 card, has 120 , 244 would ... more128 GB is 128 GB, like this 256GB is on 256 GB.
However Windows shows GiB as GB, so 128 GB shows up as 119 GiB, and 256 GB would be 238 GiB.
It's not because you won't get your storage, it's Windows that doesn't know the difference on GB and GiB.

i would not want to store 256gb on an SD card, i even find 64gb a bit too much to stomach losing.

They're using them for storage of photos, videos and music. All of this is sequential read/write data. It's not as intensive as something like booting your phone or loading apps (more random data). Plus the upgrade in storage is typically cheaper than buying a more expensive phone model. Oh, and Android has supported encryption of SD cards for a while now, soo...

q8peace, 29 Jun 2016god wow unbelievable dont you know its un secure and its sl... moreMay be true, I'm not here to argue, but drop your phone hard enough or get it wet on the inside and your UFS 2.0 is history. Stop approaching that isheep mentality. Even if you destroy your phone, you can still remove the SD Card and all your data is safe.
For example a few days ago there was a major power blackout and did not have any Internet. But becose I always save the apks that I want on my SD Card, I had plenty of apps and games to make the time fly. Cloud is s..t without Internet.
So in the end, SD cards still rock. Not everything old is bad and there's always room for improvement.
Buying a smartphone without SD card slot is a brainless idea for non-technical people. Even Sammy realized the importance of SD cards.

AnonD-19153, 29 Jun 2016Too expensiveWait like 1 or 2 years and it'll be between £20-40 (not sure about other currencies but should be similar) which i think is a descent price. Storages are going up nowadays, so these only worth the price if it's really, really needed for anyone.
32-64-128GB should be more than enough nowadays.

*I'm one of those who are having 64GB, and i'll probably run out of storage in a year. I don't trust cloud companies (privacy issues) to upload my photos and private videos.

PS: I want to have photos on my phone and not on pc, so i could any time use them without the need of internet or pc.

PS: The higher the class, the faster the speed rate just in case someone didn't know

I'm using a 32GB Class 10 SanDisk Extreme and I have to say I'm very impressed. Comparing it to a normal SD, it's like a CD vs floppy :))
I highly recommend Class 10 to everyone if you want performance.
