yes, the iphone is used in a lot of good ways, but there were smartphones before.
doctors consult each other. they could have done that before, even on 3g and on any compatible phone... but only now, its a revolution
the problem is, everyone looks on the americans
ive used video calls a few years back, on wlan. its ok, but i dont believe it will be used more that normal calls. europe and the rest of the world have always been more technologically advanced... im not thinking about scientist, nasa... but ordinary folk. in the usa, blackberry was the only smartphone. rest of the world symbian (and still is)
so you see, i can understand why americans are swayed by the iphone. to them, 3year old technology is new

Anonymous, 05 Sep 2010first of all, supercars have automatic gearboxes for fat st... moreYup my point exactly, the motivations are different, as I said.

The list I posted was merely to point out different people. From uneducated rappers, to nobel prize winners. I'm sure you can tell there is a large difference in intelligence for example.

I also agree with what you say about people who keep their iPhone visible. Along with the experience, part of what some people like about Apple is the brand. It is sort of a status symbol to some, whether this is justified or not. Some people buy it and don't even know how to download an app.

However, this isnt the case for everyone. iPhone is making inroads in the corporate sector. It is being used in the medical industry. Facetime came out in the news for doctors using it for consultation. iPad is currently being used to help autistic children.

Sure, there are people who buy it for showing off, for the sake of having the latest thing, or just to follow the trend, but besides that, the iPhone is also being bought for valid uses.

Same with the supercars. Fat Americans buy them and can't reach the lever, but supercars are also bought and used by good drivers, racing drivers, people who have worked hard in their life and want to reward themselves. So it would be unfair to say "people who buy supercars are stupid". Agreed?

However you cannot measure something in purely absolute terms. Apple is popular not because it uses the latest tech. It is popular because it uses technology (new and existing), combining it with nice design (subjective of course), and putting it together in a simple to use interface.

It is this 'experience' that makes people enjoy using Apple products. The same analogy would be for any high priced item. Supercars sell mainly for the same reason, the experience. If your number one priority would be "miles per gallon" then you would say supercars are a severe rip off. To someone who's numbre one priority is "shooting off like a rocket when I floor the pedal" his opinion may be different.

Do I want Apple products cheaper? Of course. However, do I feel that their price is worth it? Yup.

Also please note that Nokia is the parent company of Vertu, that sells mobile phones many many times the price of an iPhone. Yet people still by those phones too. If again, following your criteria, you buy for technology, then Vertu buyers are also getting severely ripped off, no?

They are also buying it for the 'experience', a different one of course, one that includes precious metals and stones.

You can call your kid's on their iPods with no phone plan needed, just wifi at both ends which is generally free.

                                  Developers.

Developers make money from Apples system, Apple make it easy "to empty people's pockets" of a dollar or two here and there, that money flows on to developers which is why iOS has the most and the best Apps.

Of course, there is always fun in tinkering, modding, and messing about with your gadgets, and that's why there are different types of gadgets, to suit different needs. Just because one drives an automatic, and another drives a manual, makes one better than the other. (Also interesting to note that even supercars are including auto options alongside full manual these days)

"Apple are for friutcakes, wannabes and 14 year old high school girls."

The list of Apple users include:

                                    Samuel L. Jackson, actor
Spike Lee, director/writer/actor "Do The Right Thing", "Malcolm X"

Larry Ellison, Chairman, CEO and Founder Oracle Corp.
Dr. Roger Guillemin, M.D., Ph.D, Nobel Laureate in Medicine and Physiology
                                    Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nobel Laureate
Edgar Morin, French philosopher, sociologist, science theoretician

The list at least shows a diverse bunch, smart and not so smart lol. One thing's I bet, Samuel L Jackson might not take too nicely to be called a fruitcake, or a wannabe hehe.

Anonymous, 05 Sep 2010Best selling doesn't always mean the best? Tell that to you... moreOn the other hand, Nokia does not charge you an arm and a leg for something that is worth maybe your pinky finger like Apple does.

I have no complaints with Nokia, even though i am a diehard HTC fan. Nokia has always been very fair with pricing, as in you get what you pay for, they won't try to rip you off.

I have always admired Nokia for that.

What's in the iPhone you can get in a unlocked 200 dollar Nokia device.

Steve Jobs goes on stage and announces the iPhone 4 and says "people of the world have always wanted to make videocalls, and now Apple makes it possible"... and everyone goes oooo.. aaaaaa... woooow!! Really? people!? Seriously? What the hell is wrong with you?!

Apple brings out a 5MP camera 4 years after 5MP's were top of the line, and everyone goes oooo..wwoowww... 5MP... Apple innovation is the best! Really?!

Samsung, Nokia, LG have 5MP cameras on their low end 200 dollar handsets..

The problem with people buying Apple is that it's a trend, it's not a good device in any way comapred to what you are paying.
You are getting severely ripped off.

I hold by my statement, Apple are for fruitcakes, wannabes, posers, women with chihuahuas and 14 year old girls.
