This phone is predominantly targeted at business and most businesses don't need banking apps or social media connectivity (yes the marketing weenies might need/like it)

But the predominant number of "workers" need a device that can provide a uniform interface between home and office and can run all the apps they need to do their jobs, don't forget one of the big things for this phone is the ability to connect/run legacy 32bit apps via HP Workspace and Azure, and the dock, mobile extender and office 365 capabilities give you a device in your pocket that can fulfill all your "business" needs and can be easily managed by a centralised IT department securely. and because they give you the like interfaces the requirement for training on different platforms is reduced.

I used to work with an NHS trust in the UK and they were trialing widows based tablets, but the consultants and staff didn't like them because they weren't "iPad sexy" so the organsiation caved and got iPhones and iPads that cannot run any of the legacy apps so they still need to issue most of these users a windows laptop as well, three devices instead of one.

The HP Elite X3 could have fulfilled all of those requirements in one device with the dock (+screen and keyboard) and/or a mobile extender

So advertised price is €1200 so aorund £1000 for a Elite X3 + Dock + Mobile Extender
vs
iPhone £359 & iPad £429 & Dell Latitude E550 £610 = £1398

That's a £400 saving per user, and don't forget buying in bulk they would get discounts and windows phones, and the time and cost saving of only having to configure and secure one device vs three. form a business perspective it starts to make a lot of sense very quickly.

and don't forget a device given to an employee is not a "toy" for them to play with and it is not "theirs" it is issued to allow them to do their defined job role as effectively and conveniently as possible.

All too often I hear users complaining about how they want an ipad or an iphone or a MacBook or what have you, my answer is always the same if you want one go and buy one we are providing you devices for business use, NOT for you to play Pokemon Go on, or for you to Snapchat a picture of your junk to some girl or guy you fancy or to browse Facebook, Instagram and Tinder on.

Big companies don't use Android - and some of them don't even allow their employees to use Android phones to connect to their servers/systems/etc. for email and other services like CRM/ERP software and things alike.

Android can't enter that market as it is the least secure mobile OS out of the bunch. And least reliable. Don't get me wrong - the OS is ok for multimedia and some gaming stuff, but other than that, there's not much to it. When it comes to productivity and business environments, Android is never an option. (unless the IT department is totally clueless about what they're doing - and the users as well)

Do you think businesses would want a WP phone that doesn't even have banking apps? Or or proper Instagram and social apps to further advertise their business? Yeah I think not. Fluid and no lagg? Well I don't think businesses will buy low end android so there's no problem.

I would buy that if it had Android on it. Specially for the MIL-STD 810G. I wonder why IP67 and not IP68 though.
A bit big but I think I could get used to the size.

They seem to be leading in market share for 2-in-1's. My brother has one of the newer flip ones and it's amazing. He is so bad with hardware too and by now most of his stuff is broken but this thing is still going. It's designed really well. Their old stuff definitely sucked but they have really changed their methods lately.
