Recently-launched Sony Xperia X receives price cut in US

06 July, 2016
The Sony Xperia X, which was launched in the US towards June-end, has already received a price cut in the country. A quick looks reveals that third-party retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo are now selling the device (all four color variants) for $500.

as I'm not a die-hard Sony fan, the unit is way overpriced. I like the design / hardware / everything, except the price. Good to see a price cut.

Here we go just as predicted, Sony's marketing strategy is starting to unravel after just one month.

I'm glad, I actually like this device but not at this price.

A few more months price drop and we may have deal.

It's not about affording the damn thing, it's about the price COMPARED to other phones. In my country, an S7, an HTC 10 and a Nexus 6P all go for exactly $530. When you have midranger priced so close to that, it's not a hard sell, it's an impossible one unless the person is very ill-imformed about other choices,,, or they're a fanboy.

Build quality is pretty close nowadays, especially in known flagships, I mean you cannot say the X is better built than an S7 or a 10.

Android optimisation is not a priority anymore as today's flagships are all overpowered supercomputers compared to, say, 2012 when a Galaxy Nexus ran better than phones with double the number of cores, for example.

Waterproofing, well, sorry to break the bad news to you but the X is not waterproof, only the highly pricier X Performance is.

Update service for old hardware, Sammy has been on fire with those lately, even updating some lower-end devices to M. Sure, you can say the media is not reporting on every Sony device being updated, but I'm not saying Sony isn't good at it, I'm saying it's not the only one.

Official bootloader unlocking tools, nice touch from Sony, but someone who's thinking of such mods isn't gonna be stopped by other methods just because they're unofficial.

You will never say goodbye to rooting in the android world,,, unless you want to use Samsung KNOX or Pay, in that case, to each his own, I'd choose rooting anyday.

Sorry for the long post, I am not bashing on Sony, only on the one problem with the X series.
Go Sony indeed, competition is good for all of us.

Alien , 06 Jul 2016Geez, just get a job and quit complaining about the price. ... moreThis one isn't water proof.

And the 'Sammy and Chinese crap" you are refering to are both in the process of strangling Sony's mobile business to the point of death.

Sony are themselves happy to lend a hand with this process it would seem by this arrogant pricing strategy.

Because whichever way you cut it, you can still buy a Oneplus 3 for $100 less than the X.

Geez, just get a job and quit complaining about the price. Get a better job if you still can't afford it. Sony is about premium quality build (it won't break like a twig or like that fortune cookie MI5), they have one of the best optimization for Android out there, only nexus phones are better, they are waterproof and they have one of the best update service for older devices.
I think it is worth every penny. You don't like it, go buy a Sammy or a Chinese crap and quit whining like a 2 year old brat..
Oh, I forgot to tell you that they even provide official bootloader unlocking on their website. Sammy on the other hand is turning into the iPhone of Android phones, which I think is a disgrace to the Android community. You can say goodbye to root starting next year with the iris scanner.
                  Go Sony!

Sony are the only Company that downgraded their flagship phones from 2016. The X-series is embarrassing.

In most places Xperia X costs higher than S7 and other flagships. In my country the Xperia X is cheaper than S7 and other flagships. by a considerable amount

So quickly? Ouch, now the two people who bought this (still-overpriced) midranger since its release will feel disappointed :(

Sony, if it stay at 5", it won't do any good no matter how good the phone is. Z5 premium is already 5.5". So the new replacement version should at least maintain the screen size. The new X version is not well received n will cause Sony to fall further behind.
