Google Now On Tap translates text from any screen, gets a new Discover section

06 July, 2016
Ever since its launch alongside Android 6.0 Marshmallow last year, Google Now On Tap has just kept slowly adding more features, and today's yet another of those occasions. The search giant has announced that from this point on Now On Tap will be able to translate text from any screen. Just tap and hold the Home button of your Android device and then choose the "Translate this screen" option when Now On Tap shows up - just like the screenshots below show.

That's cool, I could surf French and Brazilian friends' FB account. But probably google doesn't notice how horrible the quality is to translate non-Latin derivative languages such as Japanese. Iffy is too moderate to put, I think almost never make any sense.(I'm from Japan BTW)

Another feature that reaches the 10% of the Android Userbase...

I only hope that one day they can translate the in game language(s). So that I can understand some of the Japanese and Korean games that I'm playing. Google translate got that translate any text that you've copy that ain't in English( or your phone's system language), as long as you enable the function. The translation icon will pop-up automatically when you make a copy of texts.

Nice, want to take a try.

I think that the 'slide up' to search function was really good and helpful in Lollipop, but I also love to use this new Now on tap feature. There are a lot of ways to improve it in the future, but so far so good. Use it very often to look up for certain things and I gotta say, I love it. Makes everything a lot easier. All new functions are welcome, and hope to see my language being supported :D

And even if someone doesn't use these features, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't bother him/her. Besides, what stops you from taking quick screenshots? You just hold the power button and volume button and there you go. It should work for most smartphones i think.
