Weekly poll: Battery life - how much do you need?

09 July, 2016
This week, we decided to tackle the age-old question of battery life yet again. And, yes, we know that the only right answer would really be infinity and then like an hour extra, just to be safe. But, sadly, that isn't feasible any time soon (damn, foiled by physics yet again...), so we have to take a more level-headed approach to the matter and considering the 2016 state of the mobile realm, now might actually be a perfect time.

I need about 2 days bare minimum battery life
In a few years that phone only just last one day

So pretty simple in my mind
You need more battery life then you think you do

As battery's are easily made cheap I prefer
Every phone made was a little thicker just for that extra battery capacity and user replaceable battery's are nessecsary

This is coming from someone who likes small phones by the way

Qnov, 13 Jul 2016Do you try it before comment?I've already seen a 15% drop in battery efficiency in my wife's S7 Edge after 2 months.

Qnov, 13 Jul 2016Do you try it before comment?I changed a set of three batteries on average 20 months, despite cycling them in order. They can only hold some 60% from their original usage times. You DO NOT just trust the counter that tells you 100% every charge.

My wife's S7 Edge's battery performance longevity is about 10-15% less after 2 months.

I currently use a Zerolemnon 10,000mAh, and after 6 hours screen on time, 3GB of LTE data used on a 16-hour stretch for the day, I'm usually 40% of battery power left. That's even better practice not to have the battery do deep discharge as it lessens the number of cycle lives of your battery. According to my research, if you keep doing discharges till you battery is empty, or even below 20%, you have some 300 to 500 cycles. But if you do just use 50% and charge again, every time, you can get as much as over 1,000 life cycles.

It just means you need to keep charging most of the time if you want to prolong your battery cycles. If you maintain your charge above 75%, you can get over 2,000 life cycles. You can read all these at battery university dot com.

Going back to this thread, in case any of the GSM mods reads this, I am very unsatisfied with current battery life of smartphones, all of them. One day or two days is possible now if you don't use a phone, I think what most people mean (and me surely) is a day or two of USAGE. As in screen on time when doing average tasks with some breaks.

I really like the Moto Z, you can choose between thinness, battery life and even more battery life (with mods).

What an age to live in... I prefer the "fat" phones, even if the capacity wouldn't change. And capacity needs to be increased, don't want to be a bum carrying a data cable everywhere I go (let alone the powerbank or charger when I'm outside the office)

The manufacturers should make phones with removable battery + removable back cover. That way, we can replace the phone's battery to a bigger capacity extended battery. That is the only real solution!

When you use LTE, it consumes the same amount for iPhone users, the same way for Galaxy phones.
