I forgot to mention, compared to Ghetto Skype, it doesn't even work...
Shows me 2 contacts, me but offline and the "Echo" service...

What's interesting is that they stole from "Ghetto Skype"(an open source project, that "Skype Alpha" looks pixel by pixel exactly the same with the blue color scheme set as default and using the same engine) and in the about page says "... protected under copyright law ... Unauthorized reproduction ... will be prosecuted to the maximum extent possible under the law".
    Very funny Microsoft, very funny...

Skype GUI, the new ones, after the old 5.x for windows blows. It's a clunky software for Android too. Bleh!

It's a web client packed as an app but it works OK. No settings (yet?) for microphone or earphone, no video calls, but it loads a bit faster than the old one and if you click on Help - About Skype you get a dancing penguin animation. No ads, thankfully. I just did a test call and it works. Not a bad start, let's hope Microsoft keeps updating it.

regs, 13 Jul 2016Win32 via Wine or native qt/GTK?Seems to be a web wrapper (for the web based Skype) by the look of things, using Chrome/Chromium as the host, judging by a lot of the comments via the source link.

Wow, nice to see Microsoft is showing some love for Linux, seem like they are really shifting to software service company.
