Nintendo is selling a simple plug and play device. Money hungry, sure. But it's meant for people who dont want to deal with the hassle of emulators.

AnonD-81610, 15 Jul 2016But... but... does it play Pokemon GO? /S :P I guess I'm ... moreThe cost of this console is not only for the hardware, Purchasers are paying for the games that this console contains, which happen to be copyright material, and thus need to be paid for.

Aquirering copyright game ROMs that one does not own, without paying for them, is theft. So your alternative can hardly be called free, and legal.

I guess I'm the only one with a negative perspective on this news.
It's true what a friend of mine (pro gamer) said a few years back (I thing it was launch of Wii or 3DS):
"Executives at Nintendo are old farts that have lost touch with reality."
And this news it 100% proof of it!
Yes they revolutionized some ascpects of gaming, that is true. Same applies to Apple as well and modern smartphones. But both companies intentionally bring out devices with old hardware and price them extra high, taking huge margin cuts for themselves.
And this junk will look extra pixelated (terrible) on your 60" screens, while on the other side you have Android TV with Mame, NES, SNES, GameBoy, SMD, Genesis, N64, PSP, PSX, you name it with a whole bunch of emulators with gamepad support and even filters that can make the picture better (just not so pixelated!). And all that for FREE!
Here comes the mindless Nintendo fanboy bashing! :)

edgy, 15 Jul 2016Huh? With no port for usb or sdcard the box should be slimm... moreI have a folder in my phone with the 4375 and some games that were ever released For the US NES. I play them regularly with a touchscreen emulator... I will still buy this in november. Nintendo hit me right in the nostalgia. Besides it just not the same tapping on a screen than getting "nintendoitis" (actual medical term) from punching the original glorious Dpad on that super uncomfortable but fantastic NES controller.

From the positive reaction it looks like this could very well outsell their latest modern console :0 I for one will be getting this in november.

David09, 14 Jul 2016What a stupid comment to make... Angry Bird?? it is obvious... moreYou sure are ignorant. I was referring to the mobile platform comparing the games popularity in terms of the other successful games. Everyone knows Nintendo and pretty sure everyone has played a certain game from them. My point was about the games popularity on the specific platforms not the gaming world. Nintendo is like the premier gaming company.

                                Cute.

Anybody born before 1990, this was great console to have as a kid. I like the idea, Nintendo. Retrogamers like us will never forget the NES. I hope Sony makes an even smaller one than the PSOne. Or go make a one-handed miniature PS2. Sega makes one for their consoles too. Size of a phablet. Classics never die.

Also, you might be able to put NES emulators on your phone, but you can't put roms on phone *legally* as that software is still covered by copyright and Nintendo is one of the companies that has been known to be quite vocal on that whole area.

(Funnily enough, NES hardware isn't in patent anymore, so you can quite freely make one yourself, just not legally put any software on it)

Nice move Nintendo ^_^, I will get one and looking forward for the remake of SNES. Hope it got a card slot.
