A drive this dense would be a nightmare in the long-run though, a RAID setup would be far more stable for most use cases.

right after you use it for 1-2 years, the harddrive decided to die, bye bye 10TB of data

I didn't know that SeaGate was THIS bad, I've used most HDD brands and the only one that ever gave me any serious problems - and later totally failing on me - thus resulting in complete data loss was, MAXTOR! I should've known since, ironically enough, they were purchased by SeaGate a decade ago after becoming the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world! smh

Not bad. Our digital universe already worth 66 petabytes globally. This will add more to that. Thank you Seagate. Call me when you have a 50TB version.

Too slow, too pricy. Considering that and that samsung's 3D nand is getting better every year (now they mentioned that it's not too long to 8TB), we may as well ditch hdd and go for ssd. Considering flash is used everywhere, ssd, ufs no plates here in phones. Looks really like end for hdd.

I used IBM before it gone over to Hitachi and it was reliable HDD then decided to spread my risk and try WD and so far WD hasn't fail on me even after 5 years. Was rather surprised cos someone told me WD wasn't good but now i think it was a 1 off incident by that person.

I had faith in Seagate when i first bought my desktop computer with 40GB Seagate HDD which lasted for more than 7 years after that i disposed off that unit then got a pc with 80GB WD HDD which i changed very early in 5 years or so with the new 500GB Seagate which betrayed me in its first 6 months taking away all my data which is still unrecoverable. That data was so important which i lost and with that, i lost my faith in Seagate too. Last year when i had to have another portable HDD for my stuff, i went for a WD Passport and its going strong (i do own a 500GB Sony portable which is going strong since 3 years now and the build quality of Sony is above WD).

Seagate?
More like Shitgate. I've had two of those laptops which crashed under normal use. Western Digital and Hitachi are way better.

All of you posting bad trust about Seagate, and I got bad trust from Western Digital as a personal experience. I have no doubt that you guys are saying the truth, I'm not one of those ridiculous fanboys.
I would actually take it to a next level and say bluntly that: I don't trust new mechanical drives.
I've had mechanical drives ever since I've had computers, obviously, as the 1st one to have an SSD was my desktop around 3 years ago only. During this time, from ~2000 to ~2013 I've had one single HDD failure from a Samsung drive, that got replaced and everything was fine again. The other failure I've seen was a definitive shock damage from moving and bad packing of the PC, still that drive lasted long enough even failed.
Then comes ~2013 and I get myself a WD 1 TB drive (could be a green lineup issue, but seen plenty of problems on the blue lineup as well), newest model, and headache, thanks WD... Swap for a new one, headache again, failing motherboard once again, swap for a HGST laptop drive (even tho used on a desktop PC), problems go away. Not to my surprise, it's a tad older drive, albeit also 1 TB (former top of the line capacity). Rocking here like new *touches wood, let's not jinx it*, bought for my brother also an old Hitachi drive (around 2010 model), noisy but reliable.
Manufacturers have gotten so sadly sloppy with mechanical drives nowadays. It's not like SSD took over yet, and we do need something good to sit even alongside it, as a data drive. Please manufacturers, I don't care about speed on a data drive anymore, for that I have the SSD, just make it reliable so I don't need 3x backup for everything and can just trust the hardware
