It's really disappointing. Also somehow against truthfulness. The SE people could easily far sooner than this deny the rumors around 16m color, multitouch and so on during this many of time that they are developing the 2.1.

They should rather start to work on 2.2 then could be possible they will finish next or two years. X10 is my last SE phone, really.

I like how we heard about this phone last October or November and at this point 1 year later, the phone still runs Android 1.6...

Don't let the low price of the x10 persuade you to buy it. It should NOT be a choice.
Aesthetically it is pleasing to the eye and the specs of the hardware are quite nice too, HOWEVER...
1. The battery will not last you more than one day, even on standby.
2. The phone volume is ridiculously low.
3. The camera is 8mb w/ NO FLASH, my iphone 3g destroys it in comparison.
4. No mulit-touch.
5. 65k color.
6. Running on 1.6.
7. No Flash support when browsing.
8. SE's customizations really hamper the performance and holds back its true potential.
9. Lack of updates and false promises.
Unless proven otherwise, Ericsson currently has no intentions in addressing the above issues and has not provided any indication of an upgrade path for the x10 to be on the most current version of Android. The majority of competitors are already on Froyo.
This is my first SE phone and will be my last, unfortunately I am now bound to a 3 year contract because of 'upgrading' to the suX10.
The least I can do is inform you based on my user experience to NOT get the X10. Save yourself frustration, disappointment and money.

Buy our phone, the upgrade will be sooner than later - ye right! Rather too late at all. Pitty, the hardware is actually quite nice!
Now I'm sitting with a phone with old software - when it eventually gets upgraded it will be way behind again.
Anyway, they have a problem on their side - if they keep on upgrading software no-one will need to buy new phones and the last time I checked they were in the HARDWARE business. This leaves us all in a bit of a awkward situation, don't you think?
Btw. If you need to use you wi-fi connection over a proxy, don't bother - it seems that Google is not even interested in actual usable functionality like that!
Rather get a Nokia N900 - seems you can hack it all you wish (should have have waited a bit)!

Got the HTC for my staff (85 people). Feedback from the blogs on Customer satisfaction ruled all in favour of STAY AWAY FROM SE!

perhaps all X10s users will start keeping their phones in the incubator and purchase Galaxy 5 while waiting for X10's dino eggs to hatch

Even recently, Samsung has launched their Galaxy 5 with Android 2.1 and selling about 1/3 of X10's price...
Looks like this big brother is in big pressure now with all the upcoming super stars bidding good bye to old grandpa...
truely, deeply, madly disappointed

This is a very annoying situation.
When the phone was launched, the price was around RM3000, now halved but the OS still remains Android 1.6
It has been more than half a year and still no Android 2.1
Guess SE did't pay enough for a premium loyalty fees.
I still recall the X1 and X2 were selling like hot cakes those days.
