They also have GPS, cameras and comms, so they'll know exactly where it crashed. Matching you to the weapon and it to the damage on the drone is fairly easy. Then there will be jail and, maybe, "free" pizza.

Its the same situation like with autopilots in cars.
its look cool in paper, its look good in road test, but when you put more than 100 them on road... its not that great.
its also not that safe as they say us, because fr now they compare maybe 10000 automotive cars to 100000000 normal cars and they say that they are secure.... well yeah, when so small amount of them drive now, they are secure compared to normal cars, but when you put more self driving cars on road... guess what? its not gonna be that secure, not only because of human error, but because most of such cars drive in good condition roads in places with good traffic. Put them on typical roads with typical environment with loots of chaotic trafic and you end in more accidents that wth normal cars
And here we have drone delivery... now its look safe and cool, but when you put more than 10000 of them in the sky... guess again? its not gonna be so cool and safe. Not only because of human nature to "mess up things" but because natural events(wind, rain) and technical problems(drone it self, bad navigation etc.)
So for now you can all say that "its happening and its good" but I can tell you that wait untli more such drones gonna work and you'll see that its nothing special and its not safe/reliable.

As so many technologies this could be good or bad....
I primarily see the benefit for rural/non-urban areas.
Where it could be a huge benefit of delivery of all kind of things, that people would today need to drive at least 10-20Km to fetch.
In a densely populated area it would easily become a mess of noise and potential hazard from collisions and/or malfunctions.
On the unlikely event that it gets organised/regulated through a few operators it might even revive the dying/struggling postal services in urban areas as well.
(similar to radio frequency usage, there could be some auction where a few licences with included obligations were sold)
On a more paranoid node, I think we are going to get drone surveillance whether we like it or not. So deliveries would not make this significantly worse. I expect small surveillance drones something like 100m up where we won't really see or here them, but might mistake them for birds.

How long is it going to be before one of these things brings down a passenger aircraft? Especially when you look at how busy the airways are around New York, LA, London, etc. I can just see the headline now... 737 out of La Guardia downed by 7-11 delivery drone... many dead...

Only thing I'm afraid of is if they fall from certain height due to some malfunction, person getting hit by it would be seriously injured. I don't want to be that guy...

FAA aside, I like the idea of a thousand automated buzzing drones flying over any country's soil. Why buzzing you might ask? So you'd hear them coming. And so when a drone delivering some 50 cups of filled Slurpees ordered for a company party crashes into a drone hauling some 50 cartons filled with Big Macs ordered for a corporate event. Such collision and much 'Hello, free Slurpees and Big Macs!'
