Android gets Emergency Location Service, starting in the UK and Estonia

24 July, 2016
Google is adding something called Emergency Location Service to Android. It will be rolling out through an update to the Google Play Services (which automatically updates in the background, so you don't have to do anything to get it). With the huge reach that Play Services has, this means that theoretically Emergency Location Service is supported by 99% of Android devices out there.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2016Emergency Location Service:nice name for another permanent ... moreThey can already track you, there's no need for them to implement this in order to know your location, however, this will help emergency services to also know your location so the next time you're in trouble, you won't need to waste valuable minutes trying to explain your whereabouts to the operator.

This already worked in Estonia, but only by cell. This left some room for errors. Estonian myself.

while that can happen, at least 999 operators could find people who ring and hang up, or people too injured to speak, and it's not like google and intelligence agencies don't already know everything.
