i saw this phone on the internet; and got really excited that this was the phone i want, and it was cheap. im thinking of getting it for christmas, but now thinking about it , i dont know if it will be as good as most brands, like samsung or nokia. im kind of confused, because if i get it i will probably be very dissapointed with the way it runs. i dont know what to do...... because in ireland they have no qwerty slider phones and i really want one, and this one looks SOO nice.... :/

These are meant to be affordable. For people who can't afford the phones that impress you, okay? They aren't meant to be groundbreaking, but to cost 2-3 times LESS than your favorite phones and come with cheaper contracts. I understand you not being impressed with new phones - hell, all these touchscreens look the same to me (except Moto, of course, some cool designs) and keep getting worse with a bunch of unnecessary specs and pointless throwing bigger and bigger numbers and figures at us - but this particular news comments' page is not the place to complain. I really wonder how much these will cost in my country (what some people call "contract" I call "monthly income"). And yeah, I saw the Nokia Morph video today, if they were actually capable of making that it would crush the world economy. :-)

VERY VERY Unimpressed with 2010 so far. The only good phones that have come out this year are Iphone 4, Galaxy S and Desire/Evo for the US Market only.
So much hype for these superphones, so little has materialised. Too little too late, let's see some change please. I'm getting rather bored of these phones now, people keep saying there's new phones being released everyday, that''s true, but we keep getting too much of the basic stuff and I want to see something truly fresh like an Android 3.0/I0S5/MeeGo phone, why do these things take so damn long? Look at LG, thier plunging because they make crap budget phones and have forgotten about thier high end phones, only Nokia seems to be getting away selling the budget handsts due to thier ease of use.
Sorry, but I just ain;t impressed with an anything on the market barring HTC/Samsung and Apple. Relatively little has changed and nothing really seems to say ''wow'' other than the failiures of manaufacturers providing the latest version of Android 2.2, this is all we're hearing. 2011's coming up soon, and then 2015/6 and eventually 2020. We should have something like the Nokia morph concept or flexible touch displays as shown by TATMOBILEUI on youtube or even hand gesture user interfaces. THESE ARE THE FUTURE, not these soggy pieces of crap and BS about Operating Systems, it isn
t news at all, it is just prolonging the life of an old handset which only geeks will care about and not the masses who seem to think the Iphone is a smartphone. Do something to wow the casual consumer away from the Iphone an change thier perceptions, invent something new, the current tech may be impressive with GHZ and Augmented reality, but we should be doing much better, esecially on the hardware front and better intergrate it's potential with the software UI, most of the phones we use now are just square with large screens, nothing innovative at all and all looking identikit and the same and dare I say....a little stale.

By the looks of it, I find the Vodafone 553 pretty cool. With its textured body, it's an anti smudge which I like. Most fones are so lovely, but their grease-magnet design just simply ruins everything.. Hope they make more fones like this.. Looks toughie too..

So glad no-one said "First"
That's getting so old now.
As for the phone - I'm sure this will be appealing to many people and that Vodafone will sell it in the thousands.......but yeh, I have to agree it is a little boring when compared to the likes of the Desire HD, iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S.
I personally wouldn't purchase anything by Vodafone - I'm not too keen on network branded devices.
