Live photos of HTC Spark appear, looks like the Mondrian

01 October, 2010
Yesterday, we reported on leaked press photos of the HTC Mondrian but a link from our comment section thickened the plot - photos of the HTC Spark in the wild. Curiously, it's a spitting image of the Mondrian...

uhm, specs at the bottom of the page say 3.8"
while previously leaked specs state 4.3
also, the phone looks like a 4.0" or bigger...

so i'd say these specs dont match the phone

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2010Hi, when I first saw the UI I was thinking that Microsoft w... moreYes, it's a very brave move to present a new UI like this when everything seems to be gathering up around iOS and Android.
But is this the phone for Average Joe? I don't think so. Especially if we're talking about HTC. Average Joes don't like to spend fortunes on phones.
The people you mention with HTC Desire and Samsung phones probably made a mistake: if they don't use the biggest features of their devices why did they bought it? Maybe something else appealed them so much? Because if that's the case, maybe there's a bunch of people out there who will only buy a WP7 phone because they are into rectangles :) (or the design of the device or something similar).

@ivo: that's what was strange to me as well. What will be the next? Jamaican guy smoking ganja while holding a HD3/7 in his hand? :D

Hi, when I first saw the UI I was thinking that Microsoft were joking. would anyone be really interested it tiles then I realised that its only skin deap. yes its different and yes not everyone is going to like it.

But I like the fact that Microsoft are taking a risk I mean if i was going the amount of people on this website that have said it looks rubbish and it going to fail and the UI is so boring one would think that Microsoft should forget it and crawl back in a corner.

Personally I think this will win meaning it will be in the top 3. Microsoft have alot to prove they dont really have a track record with the younger crowd business people like them. But the people this operating system has to appeal to is the average Joe on the street.

who dont spend there time worrying about memory, mulitasking and tethering they just want a phone that works simply out the box that can play music maybe some games and has a app store.

I think this is the problem with these websites sometimes everybody that is on them is inot tech a know more than the average person so we always look at things from a tech view. I know people who have a Htc desire and samsung phone who dont even know there is such thing as a app market.

                          1st! err... wait... not the 1st. :)
I don't want to say anything about WP7 until the first devices hit the shelves but this new OS sure looks promising in terms of features and sure looks interesting in terms of design.
However the latter may turn out to be problematic. Sticking to the good old icons & homescreens approach is always a good idea but releasing something new might just be even better, it's not that dull and boring like nearly every touch phone UI out there, it may address and solve issues of "traditional" UIs and may bring some new features that can possibly become the most popular stuff on phones.

On the other hand the new Windows Phone UI may not be viable at all. My main concerns regarding UI design are: ease of navigation and shortcuts, customization by the user, coherency and consistency, good balance between usefulness and eye-candy features.
I'm afraid WP7 won't be the champion of all these aspects. iPhone and Android fanboys won't be interested in this stuff, Blackberry fans either, people buying phones with proprietary OS are usually not interested in smartphones at all, Nokia fanatics will probably stick to Symbian^3 and good old conservative businessmen with Windows Mobile devices won't trade in their well-known, trusty phones for something they don't know and which doesn't have adequate application palette for their needs (XBox Live is not their stuff and the list of available apps will be probably quite limited at the time of WP7's launch).
The only group that may have potential buyers are the geeks... but they buy every gadget no matter what it is.

Anyway I wrote I don't want to say anything about WP7 now and I hope I'm wrong and it will turn out to be something very useful and very nice at the same time and make the competition between smartphone OSes even more colourful.

Nowdays people tend to forget that Retina Display this, Doodle Jump and other apps that but the iPhone is still a magnificent music and media player so I wonder how the Zune feature in WP7 will turn out and how the hardware will perform in terms of sound quality.
The XBox Live capability is an other promising feature and if it's true that developing Live Arcade grade games can be done for PC, XBOX360 and WP7 devices simultaneously, WP7 can become another possible contestant in the clash of handheld gaming gadgets.

Another exciting fact about this HTC Spark (Mondrian or whatever) is the presence of a 2-step camera button. It is the first HTC featuring this function, right? I do hope that the imaging capabilities will be adequate to a device with dedicated shutter key as well.

Speaking of imaging... I know these are not official photos but having a cigarette in the hand while holding something high-tech ain't just like sending a bad message about the company, its devices and even their consumers? :) And the quality of these photos are pretty bad even for the camera of the HD2. Or they have just applied the blurry & grainy filter to make it more misterious? :)

Whats' going at HTC Company?First they released HTC Desire with AMOLED screen. At that time HTC Desire was a very technological success.Change the HTC Desire to S-LCD due to lack of 3.7 Inch AMOLED screen. Then released HTC Desire HD with TFT LCD screen,HTC DEsire Z has a S-LCD screen. Now that Windows Phone 7 will be released soon. The HTC Spark has nice specification. But what is with the screen can't HTC get their own supply of AMOLED screen or not?But i am sure when Samsung will release its Windows Phone 7 device it will surely has a AMOLED screen.Really i like HTC phones. But i think they are not really going forward since the HTC Desire was released.
