Which means you don't need a Note.
Cause S lineup is at parity for most features.
The new spen features (language translator /video gif grab etc) are quite worthy additions, and there are others over the Note 5, and more so, earlier Notes, which is what Spen users would be upgrading from...
So yes, being the person who wants the latest and greatest,.. Samsung not having these 'tech advances you want in the phone' must be disapointing, given they partially sound like, for bragging rights against other brands (eg the iphone you mentioned maybe indicating you love spec sheet numbers and have never been happy with their brand on this front),.. eg the latest memory card interfaces, cause it sounds like a phone needs 100Mb per second type interfaces/ or 512gb cards; I truly believe you are the type of user who might buy the latter, qualifying just how much storage your phone has to friends..
Now in all seriousness,.. why would 6Gb of ram be needed?
Just to sound as good as as other brands phones that are playing the 'spec sheet number game'?
My guess is you are purely in the snapdragon samsung category or are saddened if an exynos variant is x% slower?
Now, on track, this Note does represent the best of what a phone can do right now.
4k in a less than 6" phone screen (~800ppi) sure, #laughs whilst walking away...
Edit:My apologies, you didn't say you owned any of those samsungs...
One thing about waiting for technology,.. do not!
Buy what is needed when needed. Waiting for what is 'just around the corner', funnily, means 'forever waiting' (there is always something 'just around the corner').

but it worth it
i am currently have 5 battery with my note 4 and 3 battery charger
i never ever put phone on charge when i am on long trip
i know if i buy note 8 or any other phones in the future i will miss removable battery so i am thinking to keep my beloved note 4 as long as possible

i mean they say it support 256 gb micro sd like a innovation or new features but when note 4 came out it says 64 gb micro sdxc supported because there are no 128 gb micro sd cards but then i buy 128 gb one from sandisk and used it more than 1 year
then 200 gb ones came out and i still have one in my note 4
probably buy 256 gb card for my note 4 and will use until next year
i hope when note 8 comes out samsung will release 512 gb of its new ufs micro sdxc and note 8 support those babies

if they bring all of that i wouldnt hesitate even one second to pay 1200 1300 us dollars
but i think i will wait for note 8

Of Course, comparing this to the iPhone offerings would certainly be a hell of a joke...,
aside from the very fact, that it would certainly become a no-brainer to decide which one to get! However, as an honest Samsung fan I would say, that this, is not a worthy upgrade. NOT AT ALL!, especially if you currently own a Galaxy S7-edge, or even a note 5 on that matter... Iris scanner is just an additional layer of security that can easily, and simply be
ignored at this very moment, if your only main concern really; is simply, security!
fingerprint scanner and KNOX security, are more than enough to greatly guard all of your personal, And even your corporate stuffs if need be. and High Dynamic Range (HDR content) these days,
is still on its infancy and developmental stage; and something, that you really cannot use, right out-of-the-box.
I simply am quite disappointed in this release of the note, having only small iterations...,
just akin to the iPhones. if they have just opted to put on either the SD821 or the Exynos 8893 on-board;
coupled with 6GB of DDR4; perhaps, UFS 3.0 if it is already be available; a very loud and great sounding stereo speakers just like the Idle 4S; and a 4000mAh battery, regardless of the UFS1.0 storage technology and a 4K display; this, could have been a very worthy upgrade! Not unless of course; you have all the moneys in the world to procure, currently just owning a technologically detestable iPhones and FINALLY realize the very need to switch to
the ultimately complete, and the greatest smartphone ever created; and the most technologically advanced Smartnote ever, or; you simply don't have a smartphone, and want to buy one.
But again to reiterate my point; as a big, if not one of the biggest Samsung fan allover the world, if you really want to upgrade just and only just, for the sake of having the latest and the greatest all-the-time, then by-all-means, upgrade! But, if what you want is to somehow, feel the utmost worthiness of the upgrade, and to possibly experience the very best upgrade of your techie-life, wait for the weight, of the Galaxy S8!
I fervently hope, that Samsung would be able to read this heartfelt comment of mine…, because I deeply, and sincerely love this company. I really do… from their very humble beginnings, and to their uttermost evolvement up to this very day, where they are now… this post of mine, truly is a concern; and for utmost certain, not criticism...

I am greatly saddened in this release of the note 7 (should have been note 6),
because of this tiny heighten of its specs sheet. But of course, if iPhone is the only thing left to compare with, don't give it a second thought, get the Note!

But i mean are the thickness of current phones a problem? Does 1mm really make a difference?
I would rather have a phone as thick as my Nexus 4 but with good battery and no camera bump!
And all they care about is putting big numbers like (octa core, 2ghz blah blah) and fancy words in the specs! And the smartphones are sooooo friggin expensive!

From king of the specs to boring old release. The story of the Note series.
Almost same panel for 3rd time in a row, RAM seems stucked, Battery actually went down (not removable), removed the incredibly useful IR, replaced with gimmicks like Retina scanner and edge screen.
It looks incredible , I'll be the first to admit that, but it's only a shadow of the Swiss knife that Notes 3 and 4 were for their era. Oh well, at least you can find Note 4 for dirt cheap these days, that's the upside...

Most people here fail to realize that phone manufactures have to consider quite a number of issues while designing a smartphone. for example:
* bigger battery = thicker device (which is a minus for a phablet)
* efficiency > capacity
* optimization = functionality
* durable materials
* budget
* design and etc
and the last but not least, MARKETING & STRATEGY!
Lets say, for instance, they put an IR blaster, 4200mah battery, 6GB ram, 16mp camera, 128GB optional storage, expandable storage and a removable battery. This what you will get:
* A BIG, THICK and HEAVY device with a BIG, THICK and HEAVY PRICE TAG!
The worst part is that people will expect its successor or another device to have better battery, screen, camera, optimization , maybe slim and presentable or beautiful device.
I believe the spec era/war is dying out, especially in smartphones. What we now need is innovation.
There are millions of people who own a high-end phablet and about 100/1000000 of them are busy complaining. In other words, its up to the person whose buying it and why they buying it.

all those upgrades is bullshit :). All s pen functions it is just software. You can have same in your note 3, 4. check xdadevelopers page. All you need just to put adopted firmware to your phones. I am using on my note 3 all note 5 functions + android 6.0. No lags. So they installed on s7 edge different software + s pen. And you got note 7. I am very dissapointed because samsung went to the easiest way. To give people same phone + 200eur for s pen :) Made marketing and wow, how much people enchanced.
When i bought note 3, this phone was step ahead all other samsung and another brands mobiles. I think it was first one which got 3gb of ram!!!! now note series will be one of the last who will get 6gb :) there 20 another models which is already has same basic specs and some even better. I was waiting long time for note 7, and i was ready to change my note 3rd to 7th. But after today i changed my mind. Maybe i will wait for s8 or even go to another brand :(

A right time and value for money to upgrade your old Note....
Note 7 comes with memory-card slot, IP6 water resistance, plus-iris scanner, Gorilla glass 5. ect...
No other brands including Apple's have the Samsung's offerings... Samsung's is better....

Using batteries correctly can help; Generally not having them drop below 20%, (and taking them off around 80% some webpages state), not fast charging all the time (eek heat and battery cells!)
For the record; a Nokia 920 whose battery was completely discharged when I opened the box years ago (never a good start), has been left on wireless chargers for weeks on end, and left dead in a drawer at other times.
It still gives over a week (on cell/4G) on time per charge. Nuts hey!
I wouldn't be too worried about modern sealed cells from the major players.

Note 4 user here... Skipped the note 5 because I could only get 32gb versions... With SD card great camera and ip it is a good update... Will get on shortly.
