Headphones that require additional power drain the battery. Unless Apple use a larger battery in its new iPhone I can see this as a big problem for the music ...but with saying that, great upside is the sound quality will get a boost.

i.e. Chinese manufacturer boldly able to launch a product with Android OS to support all these 2yrs before !!!
Who is copying/following whose ideas here ?? :)
2. Nokia was able to demonstrate such musical remote controls (play/pause/skip track/vol+-) on the same 3.5mm jack in olden ExpressMusic models..
This is the usual Apple's marketing to promote their own products..
They say everything is incredible !!
All these sheeps will just follow the herd than thinking !!

Because of this, I'll need in the future a Lightning headphones for my iPhone, Micro USB ones for my work phone (if Android makers follow Apple) and 3,5mm for my PC.
Just gtfo with this Apple (and Android brands that will follow this) nothing wrong with the 3,5mm jack, this is pure for extra money nothing more.

There is one big benefit this way.
On a 3.5 jack, you can just listen to the music and output coming out if the device.
But now with lightening port, or by micro usb for androids, you can control your music. Like earphones may come with a control module somewhere that will change tracks, shuffle etc. Or tour car audio could do that for you now. Seems nice enough.
Anyways android users no use crying here, your OEMs are going to follow apple's footsteps anyways (you can't deny, i can make you count). So chill.
And don't deny that

In reality, to the every day user, especially with standard ear buds which are not even good quality, no differences apart from additional cost when they break down
But on the higher end with decent external DAC, it will be a revelation to audiophile, but expect to spend at least USD 150 for real difference

Now I am inclined to ditch apple... I want to charge at the same time use the headset... i hope this will not be the final design...
