This phone needs higher specs to be competitive (for example 4GB RAM, minimum, at least 3200 battery), a better faster camera that generally takes better pictures overall in all conditions, a fingerprint sensor for US models, less bloat, fewer worthless gimmicks, a better brighter screen (not bigger and not 4K), and much much better customer support. SONY then needs to advertise this phone everywhere and price it to sell. $700-800 US is way to expensive for a SONY phone with almost zero customer support.
SONY just doesn't get it. Hello SONY....we are your customers...listen up! Are you listening, or reading these posts?

    Here comes another forgettable, underwhelming, overpriced, under-spec'd, and under marketed SONY phone. Do we really need so many new SONY phones every year? They are mostly the same thing, over and over again. Honestly, it seems that SONY is so clueless about everything. And SONY, it's way past time to increase RAM to 4GB on your flagship phone at this price point. A lot of new flagships already have 4GB, and pretty soon they will be heading to 6GB. The design is just ho-hum. I like something that looks beautiful, elegant, and different....what happened to the tempered glass back from the Z5? I loved that expensive look. And only one color? That sucks. I would love to see a polished chrome phone...so cool. And I have read that this new XR will not even be sold in the USA, another big mistake. SONY, why do you continue to dump on the USA...the biggest and most affluent market in the world? And SONY customer support sucks so bad it's virtually worthless. SONY phones can only be repaired in the country of purchase. If you are on vacation somewhere outside the country of purchase and you need SONY service, forget it if you didn't buy the phone in that country. Stupid!
    I do not own anything Apple makes, but looks like I will be forced to get an Apple iPhone for my new one becuz SONY just doesn't get it. After losing so many millions of $$ they still refuse to see the light. Who is running SONY anyway? Some stodgy hard-headed old man with no vision for the future of the company?

      i so some some opinions about that phone is plastic,well ti me that look like aluminium or metal,and o those real photos finish look simmilar to finish on frame of z3,and z3 has aluminium frame,and there is certian diffrence bettwen finish on plastic and aluminium or metal
      simple example,finish of plastic frame of xp,and aluminium on z3,both are mate finish,but they look different

        Sony got the best rear camera in 2015: According to dxo that is, in my experience it has one of the best cameras in mobiles alongside s7.

        Sony has the first 4K res: Who cares? Can you see all the added pixels with naked eye? No. So the whole 2k and 4k on 5-7 inch screens is plain marketing. Yes, the pixels are indeed on the screens, but with naked eyes you just can't tell the difference.

        Sony was the only phone with waterproof: No mate, Cat S50 and Motorola 3rd gen are both waterproof 2015 phones.
        Sony is the only one among the three companies above, that comes with duel stereo front speaker: That's true.. in flagships at least, because there is a midranger who also got stereo speakers in 2015.

        Sony was the only one among them that comes with duel-sim: No mate. There were many companies who released dual sim phones in 2015.

                That is you, stubborn Bony fan. You are defending Bony too much by ignoring facts that your Bony become terrible since X series.
                It's ok to be a fan of certain product, but dont be fanatic. It's just a phone, it's just a device created by a company to suck your money.

                Actually Not all sony fans in here are stubborn. Some of them are smarter, admitting the weakness of the recent/future sony's products. But sadly you're not part of them.

                  Seriously don't you realise that those with 2,5 rounded glass and edge design have a serious flaw? They are not durable. One fall and bye bye to it's screen. Z5 on the other hand has slightly raised edges, making it more protected against falls since the glass won't come in direct contact with the floor.

                  You all talk like you know things, yet are unable to keep a phone for more than a year. Z5 is built to last, this is exactly the reason it has edges.
                  On the other hand this is subjective. I for one like a lot the edges on Z5, and I'm used to them. I can't stand looking at phones like the S7 for example, and not say "another one for the pavement", and looking at people around saying "it's so beautiful and amazing" and when I explain to them the serious flaw it has they say "you are right. How didn't we see it?"

                  So.. there is your answer.

                    The design is step forward no sharp edges anymore, which would be easier to hold and use by one hand.

                            the bezels are pretty big in comparison to my Z5. Aslo this new phone has 5,1 screen when Z5 has 5,2, but it's still taller.

                            I'm a Sony fan and will be, but this new phone is a step back. Why would they make the bezels even bigger than the Z5's? When Z5 itself has also large bezels, it doesn't make sense.

                                My OPINION on the following high-end phones:

                                - HTC10: the M8 used to be great, now the 10 is just meh.. They need to add waterproof to get my attention. Also it looks like a racing car's pedal.
                                - LG G5: FUGLY and has a tiny battery + having to buy those accessories is lame and expensive. Ever heard of all-in-one? The G4 was the bomb.
                                - S7Edge &Note7: even though I'm not a sammy fan, I admit they pulled it off this year. Though they could make better displays. Everyone I know owning an S6 and S7 have cracked displays. If it had less bloatware and useless features nobody uses I'd maybe consider buying one. Also TouchWiz sux!
                                - Xperia XP: looks good but it's kinda disappointing if you compare the specs and benchmark scoreswith the other phones. Frankly I really think someone inside is sabotaging Sony. Their strategy lately is so childish. It's like they want to loose on purpose. Killing the Z series was a HUGE mistake. I want the old Z series with glass back!

                                These are the best phones this year so far. The rest of the brands are just wannabes for the poor people who cannot afford a real high-end phone.

                                  I critic LG and HTC for being uncompetitive. But i dont critic G5 and 10 bcz i see the spirit there, to make innovative product and best products. I only critic their plastic mid ranger. Its impossible to fight Samsung and Chinese with plastic.

                                  Before the release, LG promised a phone youll love to PLAY with.
                                  HTC promised the best camera, the best sound system, the best build, the best battery. And yes G5 is the most innovative phone this year, HTC tops dxomark/the same score with S7 n zP but there must be the reason dxo place them on top, one site priese it as best phone for music and i have check there are all good review on its page.
